Mid year, what should the club have offered Lyon?

Post: # 1141010Post oneteam »

Nettlefild was just asked on radio why the club did not move quicker to recontract lyon

he said we were not doing so well mid year on the ladder and ross had a
half of his 3 year contract left to run.

I'd say the reality is that this place would have gone nuts if club had extended Lyon's contract for years , when we had only a few wins on the board.

people have short memories.

I reckon Ross had already made up his mind. He approached the Dockers not the other way around. It wouldn't matter what we offered him. I actually think the timing is right to part ways.

I overheard from a director back in April that they wanted to resign him and that there was no way they were going to sack him. He said that they thought a big club might lure him awyay with a massive offer and that they were keen to resign him. I thought Carlton were going to have a go.

His contact had the get out clause which protected us as well. That contract was done before our massive run and before he was considered a coaching genius. It was reported that the new contract was a four year contract with no such clause.

Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

Wow...the last thing I expected. Anyone mad enough to want to coach Freo in the fishbowl cannot be thinking straight, I'm not sure anything would have averted this.

Anyways, as per GT, I almost fell off my chair, then recovered 15 minutes later to say...meh. I'm more concerned about the players.
