Thank you Ross Lyon
Thanks for doing a fine job at St Kilda over five years. As an employee of the club, you gave it everything and came so close twice to claiming the ultimate prize.
I've loved watching the Saints over the last few years. Mostly from a long way away. Maybe people found it hard to watch but I like to see the Saints win and mostly we won.
I don't know the circumstances of your departure. I haven't seen a quote from you in the press this week so I don't know what you told the club or the players but as a professional you have every right to look out for yourself.
Personally I wish you good luck in life although I hope your team fails. I can't understand all the hate for you going around this place.

To anyone here who ever wrote the phrase "In Ross We Trust" have a good think about the perils of blindly, unquestioningly, following someone. You will inevitably get screwed over. And that is exactly what this bastard has done. That said, I think he has screwed himself over the most.

+ 1. Too all u flogs who said 'in ross we trust' and vilified anyone who questioned anything. Even the slighted and most obvious weakness in his coaching. U would have all made great little nazis.SteveStevens66 wrote:To anyone here who ever wrote the phrase "In Ross We Trust" have a good think about the perils of blindly, unquestioningly, following someone. And yes getting nothing for ball was completely retarded. Can't believe so many people defended it.

Thanks for everything but being honest with those that will still be there when the dust settles. Those that were there when Cowboy struck a blow, when Nicky lifted the jumper, when Plugger won the medal, when Maxie cried and when Milney had an air swing.... Coaches and players come and go but they have to show respect for the very thing that sustains them, and that is the club itself. By entertaining Freo for the last six weeks, by doing back door deals, by rejecting a reasonable offer and by hatching all this when most of the playing group is out of town... but most of all, by not having the good grace and intestinal fortitude to just be honest with the supporters I'm disappointed that it ended this way. Thanks for most of your efforts Ross but you leave most of us with an extremely bitter taste in our mouths having shown scant regard for how much this club means to all those that will still be around long beyond your selfish and dishonourable exit.

Thanks for: a team with possibly the worst disposal of any, no forward line, shallow depth of playing list- poor recruiting, Lovett fiasco, giving Ball the opportunity to play in a premiership team, lying to your playing group, bypassing ethical contract managment protocols, deceiving your own manager..and thanks for..no premiership. What a slug.

I just feel so torn right now....
Part of me will be forever thankful to Ross for working his backside off to further grow a culture of hard work and accountability in our football club, and demanding a total committment to the cause. It has been (mostly) a wonderful 5 years, and I sure feel I've had my money's worth as a supporter - heck, even my friends seem to be jealous of me as a Saints supporter for the first time in my 38 years.
Then there's obviously another part that feels like I've just been jilted by my lover. Lied to, and not respected in the morning. For that, I will now always have a ?? over Ross's credibility as a human being.
Then finally, I ask... can you really blame a guy for going to a new place of employment where his bank account is likely to be greater than $100,000 higher every month!!! for the next 5 years - I can't help but think I would sell my soul for much less.

Spot on. If one wants to be brutally honest, Lyon's imrpoved coaching performances from 2008 coincided with Lenny returning to full fitness and continued while Lenny was at the top of his form and then dropped away after Lenny got injured again.bigcarl wrote:With 16 fit boys.kosifantutti23 wrote:The same champion side that was beaten by Melbourne in an elimination final?Con Gorozidis wrote:Thanks for leaving us with the worst youth in the afl.
He inherited a champion side. Ffs.
It was a very good list and GT might have taken it all the way.
2009 was our best year under Ross, and that was also the year when all our stars were 100% fit.
I agree strongly with the OP that we should be grateful to Ross for all the really good work he did: he was undoubtedly a talented coach and he almost got us there. But the idea that he turned the club around when it was on a downward slide is 100% utter crap.

By 2007, it was the most over-rated list in the AFL. Their time was from 2004 - 2006. Injuries may be an excuse, but doensn't change the fact that GT missed the premiership window with that squad.bigcarl wrote:With 16 fit boys.kosifantutti23 wrote:The same champion side that was beaten by Melbourne in an elimination final?Con Gorozidis wrote:Thanks for leaving us with the worst youth in the afl.

Life is complicated.
Situations change.
People are now throwing crazy money at him.
Freo is calling.
Not a bad place, and a pretty good list!
And over 7 million with 3 in the first year thrown in is not something you can sneeze at.
Maybe you can.. most people wouldnt.
Whats his motivation at staying at StKilda with the window shut and the finiancials raising their ugly head?
The guy isnt stupid!
Its the logical choice for HIM.. maybe not for you
