Pelchen might be a saviour here
Given that we won't have a senior coach to guide recruiting, it's pretty handy that we have a very solid list manager in the background who can make it all happen. This way hopefully it doesn't matter too much if a senior coach isn't appointed until late October - because I can't see it happening in less than six weeks.
The caveat is that the coach appointed needs to quickly get a very solid working relationship with Pelchen, as he'll have a lot of power around the footy club in the next few months.

The hawks didnt think he was the answer. Hope you are right because it is more than likely delistings will be done without a coach.

But is it possible they appointed him because they thought something like this could happen?vacuous space wrote:I wonder if the decision to appoint Pelchen has anything to do with Ross' decision to leave.
Take a few eggs from the one basket.
Nettlefold said they approached lyon for a contract extension in may (for whatever reason, obviously unsuccessfully), when was Pelchen appointed?
yup, and that's what pelchen can help. regardless of how good or bad he is, someone needs to take responsibility for making decisions during the interregnum. pelchen's got more experience than many in that role.Stillwaiting wrote:let's just hope the club can hold things together and get through the trade period and apointment of a new coach.

Pelchen has a pretty damn good record as list manager at the Hawks. He built their premiership team with his recruiting and trading strategy, and has left their list in excellent shape, with at least another 4-5 good years ahead of them.
He's very experienced and has worked alongside some good people before.
He'll look after us well.

Firstly, Pelchen built a list that won a premiership. Wouldn't be too much angst on here if the Saints had managed to do that in the last two years.
Secondly, the negative things that one hears about Pelchen are from other clubs. North Melbourne sold the family china to get Thompson and Hay. Josh Gibson was another quality get under his tenure. Pelchen simply had a reputation for being on the winning end of a trade.

Like all, he made some recruiting blunders and he was/is seen as a control freak. However you cannot deny that he had a big influence on building the lists of Port and the Hawks, two teams that went on to win premierships.plugger66 wrote:The hawks didnt think he was the answer. Problem is he has a reputation and clubs dont give him anything anymore.Old Mate wrote:Like all, he made some recruiting blunders and he was/is seen as a control freak. When he left It was reported that he didn't like that he was reporting to the CEO anymore. I thought he resigned.plugger66 wrote:The hawks didnt think he was the answer. Hope you are right because it is more than likely delistings will be done without a coach.

Hawks are doing just fine. Maybe he needed a new challenge in his field?plugger66 wrote:The hawks didnt think he was the answer. Hope you are right because it is more than likely delistings will be done without a coach.
