IS this the most unprofessional DOG act in AFL?
The more I think about this, its almost unbelievable.
He lied to the players, club and fans. He lied to his agent and legal representative in contract negotiations. He kept this fabrication going for at least 6 weeks. He likely impacted the performance of the team in the final against the swans.
Unbelievable.

Not to say I disagree, but when did he lie to the players or the fans?
As I said a few nights ago when there was this speculation that "Ross is staying", where was it ever confirmed? Everyone was jumping at shadows over every rumour that he was going to Melbourne but as soon as a rumour circulated that he was staying it was treated as gospel.
All I've ever seen from RL recently is "I'm determined...", "My circumstances haven't changed...", etc, etc, throwaway lines which are vague and don't mean anything. When did he come out officially and say "I am staying at St Kilda in 2012"?

He didnt and i have said that many times and got told that i am wrong. I would rather be wrong and i wasnt right either but they were wrong thinking he said he was staying. In hindsight it was pretty obvious he was going.battye wrote:Not to say I disagree, but when did he lie to the players or the fans?

Ross Lyon or Ross Lyin'
Battye - The club and players seemed to think he was staying. Why? Because he told them he was. So maybe...just maybe...it's not about what he said to you (via the media) it's what had everyone players and staff alike, convinced he would see out his contract.
Interesting thing is a contract. It is a signed committment to see through your duties until your end date. So he kind of lied when he signed that too I guess...
So Ross Lyin' it is.
Prick.

When did he tell the club he was staying. Nettlefold said on Monday night he hoped he would stay. The Jeff wrote:Ross Lyon or Ross Lyin'

Was this confirmed? Or is this just what has been gathered from soundbites from Sam Fisher et al?fingers wrote:Told the players explicitly that he was staying.battye wrote:Not to say I disagree, but when did he lie to the players or the fans?

I'm not trying to create an argument, I'm just thinking that people are feeling more bitter about this because they have read too much into the minor things that have transpired.

Perhaps. But $7.5 million... people have done a lot worse for a lot less.Junction Oval wrote:I can understand that he has an offer that he can't refuse, but the way this has gone, he has definitely damaged his reputation.
Thanks to RL for his time at St Kilda, he was one of the clubs most successful coaches. "The end of an era". Time to look forward to the next era.

I don't know what to think.
Would we have wanted Lyon beginning years of rebuilding, only not to finish it? If he left in a year or two, what would that have meant when a new coach steps in half way through Lyon's vision of what a rebuilt St Kilda can be?
I'd say it's better he's out now if it's "an end of an era" and the right choice is to bring in new blood with a new vision who will be in it long term.
Would I have preferred Ross staying through out the whole rebuilding stage? Absolutely, but he's hot property at the moment and the offers would have kept on coming.

His decision will bite him...
Absolute hypercrite - the most immorally wrong act by an AFL coach I can remember. Don't worry this will cone back to bite him in a big way. Karma has a funny way of balancing most things in footy & Ross has upset the karma gods with this one! Filthy greed .....

look that's footy nowadays. we knew he wasn't a saint at heart and that he wasn't a believer in loyalty.
as long as he wasn't the main player behind the recent delisting - especially of baker.
i thought he might give it a crack next year, but like many i had little faith in his ability to develop youth. he probably doesn't either.
i actually feel sorry for mark harvey in all this.
thanks for your time ross - almost paid off, but given the circumstances of your departure you've probably soiled your reputation with saints fans.

It really does.
