Lyon has sold out the players
Apparently didn't know a thing about it.
Man of integrity. - lol
ESP has sacked him for negotiating behind their backs.
3.5 million by Freo for first year and 1 mill for the next three.
Whew.
We know the price of his soul.

Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Re: Lyon has sold out the players
Have you ever left a job for money? I certainly have and didnt give a stuff about the company. Only cared about my mates when I left and still see them now.joffaboy wrote:Apparently didn't know a thing about it.

I am disappointed by his decision to but am not sure what you expected!
"Now listen guys I am seriously considering a big offer from Freo and wanted you to know first. I want you to put in everything for the club though and pretend it is not happening, and lets not tell anyone either! Mums the word!
Hands in, 1,2,3 saints"

Re: Lyon has sold out the players
We have probably all done it except I did tell my mates before I left. And the bond at a football club is slightly different. I don't blame him for taking a better offer. The way he did it was inappropriate (from what we now to so far).plugger66 wrote:Have you ever left a job for money? I certainly have and didnt give a stuff about the company. I'm not even that POed about the fact that he's no longer our coach (well I am disappointed because I think he's a gun), but it's more that I genuinely believed he was a man of integrity, honesty, etc in a sea of cliches and media beatups. That's all been ripped away, it feels soul-destroying.
But of course, it's a business. We move on. We need to move on quickly though. Hell of a lot of competition for good coaches at the moment.

how could the Saints counter that?
But if what is coming out is true, I have overestimated the integrity and truthfullness of Lyon.
He apparently approached Freo, therefore he shafted Harvey, he apparently told the players he was staying, and then walks on them.
His management firm has sacked him
He was negotiating with a rival club during our tilt at the finals.
if you are comfortable with that good luck to you.
As i said the coin is too good to believe, but football is not just a job, it is very emotiona.
personally I couldn't care less.
he has run the list into the ground and then squibs it when it comes to rebuilding it.
Well he gets a built list and some big coin.
Cost him his reputation as a person of integrity and honesty though.
Is it worth it? Obviously to him.
oh well.

Re: Lyon has sold out the players
If you leave to go to competition you don't stay there and lie to your colleagues & management. You make it known, and let the management decide if they want you to stay on. And almost always they will show you the door & walk you out!plugger66 wrote:Have you ever left a job for money? I certainly have and didnt give a stuff about the company. Yep but you dont tell them until you have 100% got the job. Are you saying he should have left 4 weeks before the finals? If you reckon it is bad know imagine that.kaos theory wrote:If you leave to go to competition you don't stay there and lie to your colleagues & management. It's weird.
If he had just left, I would of been cool with it.
It's the manner he has done so that irks me.
Telling his players he was staying is pretty crap, Roo finding out while in hospital pretty crap, spouting off he was staying was pretty crap.
Actually, convincing myself quite easily we are better off without him.
Very, very good coach.
Just not an honourable person.
Which doesn't mean he won't enjoy success, but doesn't mean that we won't enjoy it either.
FQF.

Maybe we know now why he coached in his words 'so poorly' v Sydney, as his head and heart were elsewhere.plugger66 wrote:Yep but you dont tell them until you have 100% got the job. Are you saying he should have left 4 weeks before the finals? If you reckon it is bad know imagine that.

Lets face it 99% of people wouldnt of had a clue if he coached poorly on Saturday unless he told us but lets wait for all the hindsighters to say i though he coached poorly.SainterK wrote:Maybe we know now why he coached in his words 'so poorly' v Sydney, as his head and heart were elsewhere.plugger66 wrote:Yep but you dont tell them until you have 100% got the job. Could of understood it if he'd taken a job with Melbourne.
Could have understood it if he hadn't gotten sacked by HIS management company.
The way it happened has left me thinking WTF? I doubt we'll lose to Fremantle in a while....
On a sidenote:
Does anyone know if his management company now has a right to sue him for the money they lost with him negotiating behind their backs?
If he's under contract with them, is he allowed to negotiate behind their back?

First time this year I thought the same.SaintPav wrote:He coached badly on Saturday night.
His use of Dempster was strange at best.
The match up of BJ on O'Keefe bothered me too.
Sensible question? Do they get a cut of the earnings or are they on a set fee?noreason41 wrote:Could of understood it if he'd taken a job with Melbourne.

Re: Lyon has sold out the players
Oh come on, he knew he had that job in the bag for a while. Its not like Freo wouldn't jump to have him. He wasn't going for an interview with several other prime candidates, he was the candidate.plugger66 wrote:Yep but you dont tell them until you have 100% got the job. I also didn't agree with some of his match ups and moves including starting Dempster in the forward line.
No offence, but does someone have to die for you to fire up?

Re: Lyon has sold out the players
I Understand why coaches and players leave. Probably being involved with the club for a few years does that. I have seen many friends get the axe so people I dont know leaving means f*** all to me.SaintPav wrote:He said he lost the game at the selection table.plugger66 wrote:Lets face it 99% of people wouldnt of had a clue if he coached poorly on Saturday unless he told us but lets wait for all the hindsighters to say i though he coached poorly.SainterK wrote:Maybe we know now why he coached in his words 'so poorly' v Sydney, as his head and heart were elsewhere.plugger66 wrote:Yep but you dont tell them until you have 100% got the job.
