Media Statement: 15 September
Ross Lyon has this evening advised the St Kilda Football Club that he will not be seeing out his existing contract to the end of 2012.

Lyon also advised that he would not be accepting the offer of a new, unconditional four year deal to coach the Saints until 2015.

The St Kilda Football Club is disappointed that Ross Lyon will not be continuing as senior coach.

Until this evening the Club was engaged in constructive discussions with Lyonâ€™s management about his long term future at the Saints.

St Kilda Football Club assistant coach Robert Harvey will assume responsibility on an interim basis.

maybe I will come around, but at this point I feel that hideaway and nettlfold have stuffed things up.

Same here Bratty, could understand if the club hadnt of changed the offer. BUT if Ross left even with a better offer from the club on the table then that is a stab in the back!

Ross id going to Fremantle. It looks like his decision to stop coaching at St. Klda is linked with Fremantles sacking of Mark Harvey.

Harvey was at a Fremantle club breakfast function this morning and was reviewing the player list after.

5 Hours later he was sacked. Timing seems to be everything here!!!

Yeah, cant complain about the board and how it was handled. Had a 12 months still to run on his contract.
Offered him 4 years. He wants to walk, good on him.

Rubbish. The club has done nothing wrong.they resigned him when we were struggling. He still had a contract and was offered four years more. Lyon has done the dirty on the club and its playing list.

He can go get stuffed. Will renew my membership tomorrow in support of the club. FQF

Wouldn't make a decision to move to the other side of Australia in under 24 hours. Been happening behind the scenes.

My guess is that the appointment made mid way through the year of Chris Pelchen to the position of Head of Football, a person to whom Ross had to report eventhough he is the coach, might have had something to do with it. Just a guess though.

Didn't Nettlefold say an extra 2 years was offered the other night on FC?

Maybe they made their best offer too late.

Yup, you may be right... if you were prepared to offer him 4 years unconditionally and on more money when he's already out the door, why not sooner??

Thanks Ross Lyon got the team to Grand finals in consecutive years. You were able to get the best out of most of the team. You were handed a good core team and you built around them to almost deliver but you didnâ€™t, so you failed. I am disappointed that now that you got what you wanted out of the saints you leave when they need you most. If you were looking for a challenge what more could you ask for?
You must have made the deal before the finals.
