Had we drafted Judd instead of Ball.
This one is probably the ultimate what it fantasy.
I say we would have won 3 premierships.

I reckon they would have given us at least 20 retrospectively.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

If we really wanted to get into it...
We should have taken
Chris Judd (3) over Luke Ball (2)
Jimmy Bartel (8) over Xavier Clarke (5)
Sam Mitchell (36) over Matt Maguire (21)
Dane Swan (58) over Josh Houlihan (49)
Brian Lake (77) over PASS (67)
Nathan Bock (RD 25) over Josh Dicketts (RD 2)
Aaron Sandilands (RD 33) over Ben Schwarze (RD 18)
Ben Rutten (RD 40) over Chris Smith (RD 34)
That's just from one year as well....

I agree, how could he not realise that Luke Ball would only be an elite midfielder for a very short period of time before his body completely gave up to him which would lead to him losing his pace and kicking penetration only to be asked to be traded to our main competitors for the 2010 flag...barks4eva wrote:Another Grant Thomas stuff up and YES it was his call to draft Ball ahead of Judd!
Put yourself in the recruiters situation, they were both elite players with great pace and skill, Ball was a bit better with the grunt work and Judd had a bit more class. Ball had a clean bill of health and Judd was overcoming some serious shoulder issues.
Surely passing over Brian Lake was a bigger mistake?
Josh Houlihan over Dane Swan was a bigger mistake also?
Who's to say that Chris Judd would have even been the same player with us? chances are he would have just had to come up with another excuse for why he left us to go to Carlton... couldn't really use homesickness could he?

Tough call. Both Ball and Judd are premiership players so are obviously doing something right.
Would love to have Juddy playing at the Saints but at the same time he annoys the s*** out of me too. He is arrogant, was announced captain at Carlton without even playing a game and he is a one man band over there at Carlton. Id be worried the same would happen if Judd was with Carlton.
Ball was an ok pick up, Xavier Clarke was the bad pick up if you ask me. Probably the worst top 5 draft pick of all time.

He looked like he was going to be an exceptional player until he was destroyed by injuries, you can't really blame that on the recruiters.Ajer wrote: Ball was an ok pick up, Xavier Clarke was the bad pick up if you ask me. Probably the worst top 5 draft pick of all time.
Also there have been may worse... in the years surrounding the draft we took Xavier clark there was
Luke Livingston

100% correct. We rated Ball ahead of Judd but we were just about certain we would get both. We didnt count on WCE rating Judd as high as they did especially with the go home factor.stkildathunda wrote:Pretty sure we could have selected Ball at pick 5 because the 2 WA teams wanted the WA guys in Sampi & Polak but they couldnt let Judd go when he fell to them... what if's are a waste of time --- what if Milne had of actually run to the ball or made an effort to try and kick a goal instead of watching it bounce through for a point... how many times has Milne not made an attempt to kick a goal when the ball is 2 metres away from him and 1 metre away from goal???? never
he didn't even need to try and pick up the ball he could have gone for a soccer goal, why would you not make an effort to win the game & kick a goal when it was there for the taking???

He was wrong footed. 2 metres may as well have been 20 metres. Anyway why are you talking about what ifs.Saints 2012 wrote:what if's are a waste of time --- what if Milne had of actually run to the ball or made an effort to try and kick a goal instead of watching it bounce through for a point... how many times has Milne not made an attempt to kick a goal when the ball is 2 metres away from him and 1 metre away from goal???? never

This myth makes me so angry, from one angle it looks like Milne pretty much had his hand on the ball, in reality if he could have gotten his hands on it he would have... it was just a deceptive camera angle...plugger66 wrote:He was wrong footed. 2 metres may as well have been 20 metres.
