Our renewal should be done over two years in my opinion. This year we should delist \ retire about 8, off the Senior List and most of the Rookies. I would keep Curran and Ferguson of the rookies.
Of the Senior List delistings, it should include some of those who played last night, otherwise how are we going to improve.

Exactly. If some of those that played last night do not get delisted then the only reason they should play a senior game is as back up for the kids.

I would also upgrade Tommy Walsh.

Delist or retire
MG
Bakes
Mini
Johnson
Cahill
Heyne to rookie due to contract

Delisted rookies
Gaertner
Archer
Anreoli
Eddy

Walsh upgraded.

And every player is tradable.

Also Smith may go as well.
Sounds pretty good to me. Although not sure of the worth of keeping Blakey on the list either, might be better to put games into Simpkin. Johnson and Cahill massive disappointments.

Trade whoever you can get a good deal for.

I think Blake still has some value and with the sub rule killing true second ruckmen he's always a handy player to have around in case McEvoy or Kosi go down. I don't think Simpkin has the size to make it as a full back or the skills to play anywhere else. I think he just stays for another year as backup before we get some more draft picks.

Nope, I don't buy it. There is no way we'll be offered sufficient compensation for losing guys like Fisher, Goddard, Dal Santo, Milne, McEvoy etc.

Well that's why we probably wouldn't trade them. But no one is totally immune. If we were offered Lance Franklin and Sam Mitchell for Stephen Milne I think we'd probably take it!

How do you know that. Everyone is tradable it just depends on the price.

Question: Is there any type of player that we have a surplus of (aside from underskilled left-footers) that other clubs have a major lack of? Serious answers appreciated.

Don't want to get shot down here but I see Joey as seriously tradeable. He's and experienced, skilled outside type midfielder and plenty of teams would be interested.

For some reason intangible I just see him as one to let go.....maybe it's his annoying appearances on Channel 7 commentary this year?

The new generation should be built around BJ & McEvoy. Give BJ the captaincy & hope that will keep him in RW&B.

Everyone else is tradable for the right price.

There is an opportunity to rebuild the list properly & I fully expect Ross to relish the job at hand.

medium defenders. not sure if other clubs have a lack but we definitely have a surplus:

fisher
gilbert
gwilt
clarke
blake
dempster
simpkin
lynch

and you could add others like johnson, gram, winmar, gamble to that list as it's likely they'd all play their best footy back there.

BJ is 26. McEvoy is 22. I don't get it. By re-build, who should we get rid of?

I'll bite.

I wonder if there's some dissatisfaction with our coaching panel. Have the new assistants made the grade? How would we know?

I'll take Ross and the club at face value - both have said he is wanted/wants to be at the club.

Depends on who is in demand, and what is being offered.

End of an era. When will the next one be ready? Who is going to be a part of it?

Well some have gone already which I believe needed to happen...

- Baker
- McQualter
- Eddy
- Gardiner

Now in trouble imo...

- Heyne
- Gamble
- Cahill
- Blake

We need these guys to step up who are imo our next 'core'.
- Sipposs (for Gamble)
- Crocker
- Ledger (for Ray?)
- Winmar (for Clarke?)
- Cripps
- Walsh (To the forward line)
- Stanley (for Gardy)
- Simpkin (for Blake)

Disappointed in Farren Rays year, same with Montagna, both been ordinary.

Dempster was by far one of our better players for the year, totally turned from an ordinary player to vital player imo. Deserves alot of credit.

I don't get this end of an era thing either. Our best 7 players of the past five years: Riewoldt, Hayes, Goddard, Dal Santo, Fisher, Montagna, Milne, will all still be here next year.

I think people are are taking it the wrong way.

End of era does not I believe mean a 100% clean out... but IMO rather a period where Lyon will be prepared to overhual the gameplan, team and list ...and in doing so this may mean a step backwards before we go forwards (result wise).

The 2012 Team...my prediction.

23 % From Youth plus players like perhaps Tommy

* Cripps, Ledger, Sippos, Curren...Tommy, Stanley...and new draft picks

% may be a bit higher if more come on.

72% From the 2011 22 (This already includes Steven + Lenny & Gwilt who were there at the start)

5% A player from another club

Part of those tat will go will be our poorer ball users. I doubt all...but yes a chunk of them will see their places being tried out by others.

Agree, those guys unless poached would be like Goodes, O'Keefe, Bolton etc at the swans, they are you core to build on not chuck away. The problem Melbourne has in comparison with the Saints and Hawks post bottoming out is a lack of core players of quality.

Very good comparison. What we need to do is to develop like the Swans have with Rohan, Hanneberry, Reid, Parker etc.

Wish we could get young Rohan back our way his dad played for us apparently. Reid looks like a player too. I would love to get Majak Daw or someone similar -an athletic excitement machine. We need goal kicking forward pressure like rohan or someone like that other little brissie blood nut. A Lenny replacement would be nice too.
