I'm not convinced there is one...

You acknowledge players have slumps for whatever reason, and yet Roo's slump is somehow inexcusable.

I need to get on some of your good gear to follow the logic I reckon...

My view is simple: Roo has a knee held together by shards of cartilage and it's operating under anaesthetic.
Don't blame my drugs. So is that it? His knee? If his form slump is his knee and it is unlikely he will improve on this years performance then it is a no brainer. The club will need a new captain for 2012.

Make no mistake about it. He won't be afforded the same protection he has enjoyed this year. AFL footy is not that accomodating.
Why do we need a new Captain because Rooy isnt as good as he was. What does that mean? Since when does the Captain have to be the best player. He will be Captain next year unless he doesnt want it.
And you pontificate like you know everything. It will destabilise the club quicker than a sinking ship. Reason: money. It won’t' take long before there is decent in the camp because of weekly public debates over whether he should even be in the team let alone being paid the money he is on.
I know everything because I disagree with you. Yep that makes sense. That probably means most know everything. Anyway what are you on about. I do know players only care what money they are getting, not others otherwise there would always be trouble in the camp due to different stages of their contracts. i can honestly say if that is your reason then you are completely wrong. I do know that.

You're right. He should be captain until he decides he doesn't want to do it anymore.

Yeah, well you're off your head if you think the players will start arguing about whether Roo deserves his spot in the team.

If he is only capable of producing the performance he has delivered this year is he worth his current price tag. Luke Ball anyone. He could remain in the best 22 because we won't have better options so I don't think you actually can argue his position in the team until there is and that could be a while. I suppose we will see in 2012 how it goes. He is trading on concessions this year and rightly so but I don't think he will be afforded the same sympathy next year and beyond. AFL isn't that kind.
