This is what I fail to understand too Mr. p. In 5 years, I'm sure even Ross doesn't have the magic powers to turn them into a Premiership team. He has the chance to rebuild (a team that's currently having a shot at a Premiership ) and reload with St Kilda, and would stand more of a chance of regular finals footy within the next 5 years, even with half the current crop retiring during that period, I'm sure of it. Mmelbourne had to cheat to get their current rabble, what would Ross stoop to for them?markp wrote:Yup... and to go to what? Wont happen.
Plunge on Lyon to coach Dee's.

"Who's going to get the sack" is pretty popular.SainterK wrote:You sure?markp wrote:Maybe any bets at all placed on that book are irregular!SainterK wrote:It says irregular bets
I don't bet personally, but isn't the 'who is going to coach where' market pretty big?
I like to think of myself as an optimist, but I'm getting a little concerned, lock him away Saints!
Sorry guys my fault.
I'm in Sydney at the moment and my line to the betting agency was a bit dodgey.
I actually placed a bet which was "(inaudible) Lyon, 5 (inaudible), Melbourne (inaudible)"
I was getting a juicy $9 on Nathan Lyon to get 5 wickets in a Melbourne test.
Obviously the bookie took it for "Ross Lyon, 5 years, Melbourne coach".
How was i to know both odds were $9

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. I'd like to hear from someone with a sportbet account who has ever tried to bet on one of these novelty books, which they somehow promote as a substitute for 'news' sometimes... I reckon if they did take money on it they would suspended the market way before there was any chance people might actually have an idea what's going to happen (as in deals are being negotiated).SainterK wrote:You sure?markp wrote:Maybe any bets at all placed on that book are irregular!SainterK wrote:It says irregular bets

IMO, mostly it's an ad for sportsbet and a shonky and bereft basis for a 'news' story.
Why are there no details about the amounts involved??
And didn't someone back the hawk to win at $1.02 with $100k or something and lose earlier in the year?
This whole odds (and bets) as news thing really is an utterly deplorable disgrace.

i seriously don't understand how it could happen. the reality Melbourne need a coach in the next month or so. I'd be amazed if we let him go with a year to run no his contract. we are us to our necks go it for another year i reckon. if we did win it this year he could coach Manchester united next year and i would still be happy and love him forever.

While I don't expect Lyon to leave, I don't agree with some posters on here who find the idea unthinkable. If I were in Lyon's position, I would certainly give the idea serious consideration.
Any coach would have found sitting through the 2009 and two 2010 GFs to be more than a little traumatic, not to mention all the off-field turmoil at the club over the past couple of years. Moreover, our list isn't showing any signs of getting remarkably better all of a sudden, so there is certainly no guarantee that he is going to have a strong chance in the next few years of vindicating himself for the two GF losses.
In short, it is quite conceivable that he would be thinking he has gone as far as he can go at our club and that it's all getting a bit stale.
The Demons do have quite a promising young list but have been very disappointing. If he went there, Lyon would have a rather different sort of challenge in the first few years: trying to get the team to gel, and to make it competitive enough to perform well in a finals series within 2 years. He won't feel under pressure to keep making GFs year after year (which he will now need to do at the Saints or else be seen by at least some people as having gone backwards).
On top of all this, if the Demons are prepared to pay him a fair bit more money and offer him a longer contract, the idea of a move may well look pretty appealing to him.
I don't think loyalty would be an overwhelmingly important factor for Lyon, as it might be for a coach who had formerly played for their club. And, indeed, our club's record of unceremoniously dismissing its coaches -even two who had taken the club very close to premiership glory - is hardly one which would inspire unquestioning loyalty from any coach.
I'm not at all saying that I think he's going to leave. Just that it is far from being an impossible thought.

Maybe it was Mike or someone down at the heraldscum who placed the bet BEFORE the story broke with then someone else putting $130 on it and dropping the odds down to $2 (allegedly).Sainternist wrote:Who is responsible for steering this campaign?

That's a really big pool there for that to happen by the way.
