Riewoldt a little worrying

Post: # 1130632Post RodKeoghsLoveChild »

Really worrying after coming off a 5 goal game last week to be totally ineffective and beaten one on one more than I can ever remember. Nick had plenty of good delivery and just got out positioned all night and destroyed by Henderson on a good night for forwards.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to stay on my toes.

`

It was a lousy night for forwards with a strong, blustery wind howling through.

But I agree that he was poor and, at the risk of repeating myself for the 10,00th time, would benefit immensely from another genuine key forward alongside him ... not a second ruck like Kosi.

Dawson was perfect for the job tonight.

That's why Ross says we need to recruit a key forward...

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

What worries me is seeing him constantly beaten one on one. Henderson took a number of contested marks on him. I can't remember seeing Riewoldt take one.

Walsh has been going great guns at Sandringham and can't get a look in. Go figure.

Ross must not rate Walsh. Openly says we need a key forward (which Walsh is) and doesn't play him once.

Who would have thought we'd ever see Henderson beat Riewoldt. :?

Didn't have the best night in blustery conditions but thought he competed well after half time and was involved in some key contests. The delivery into F50 wasn't fantastic either in the first half.

This year it's Nick or no one.

Too late to change.

Lets face facts.....Riewoldt as we knew it week in week out is probably past.....hes been down for 22 weeks.....

He will still have his days but really, he need another fwd for a chop out.

A mobile, quickish, good grab tallish option next to him would be ideal.

Bit more than a little worrying. I'd say he's getting a game to drag three defenders with him, coz he can't do much else atm.
Wlash is Ross' finals secret weapon.

bigcarl is right, you only have to look at how dangerous dawson looked who lets face it is a backman ONLY, if we could get a Butcher or a fit Fev, maybe walsh or siposs internaly firing we would be very very dangerous forward. It would be nice to average 3-4 more goals a game more than we currently do, just to avoide those close loses e.g. cats, blues, tigers and even the recent collingwood game.

He can't do it all himself. He's always thought that he could and that's what has made him the player he has been.

Agree with Teflon that he desperately needs a chop out from another genuine key forward ... tall, mobile, quick ... who can use his body in a contest.

He looked like a cripple tonight. No good on the lead nor the contest.

There's got to be something wrong with Roo. He was completely beaten in the one on ones with Henderson and his physical presence was virtually zero tonight.

I reckon ross used him as a decoy tonight , in the first half we butchered the ball going forward however it was obvious that most times the ball went to nick , he had 2 or 3 on him .
In the 2nd half most times we went forward , it was to other players , who were one on one . with better 2nd half disposal , this was so much more productive.
Roo would have had no more than ten one on one's with henderson and they were probably 50/50 , he just couldn't take a mark inside 50!

why? you hang off my every word?.....nice.

Look Im not knocking Riewoldt at all hes a champ but the precious princesses have to understand hes rising 29, played CHF a tough role his whole career and clealry got some from of knee problem.

He will ofcourse still produce big games and big weeks......my view is that will be interjected with more quieter games....he needs some help.

lol@ hang off your every word..have I ever replied to you in the past ?
any way nice little progression from your little "Riewoldt as we knew it week in week out is probably past." quote ;)
even Champs can have a slump, this guy is special and will be back, oppositions will still use multiple players aginst him and to our advantage regardless. Your precious princess jibe was also very misplaced

Unless he gets two new knees, I don't know what we can do with him. Use him to drag opposition players away from contests??
I hate saying it, but it looks bad. He's heroic playing on, but geez.....
