Membership Shake-Up

Post: # 1128426Post shmic_s »

Good to see the club being active in trying to improve the membership system.
As a result of the feedback the received, in 2012, the Club is committed to:

- Offering an affordable junior membership product;
- Offering a non-attendance membership product; and
- Providing a one-stop, in-house Membership service.

Maybe my arithmetic is wrong, but
Officially, a total of 39 263 people signed up to be Saints’ Members in 2011, including 6422 new Members.

This is marginally higher than the record set in 2010 (39 227). Around 7 500 Members from 2010 did not renew in 2011.
So how can we have more members than the previous year when we had 'around' 7500 not renew and replaced them with 6422 'new members?

Surely that's a loss of 'around' 1100 members?

The plot thickens, MM.

The 2010 annual report claims 40,555 members. This year they seem to have adjusted the 2010 figure for some reason.

Wasn't the 39000 figure based on what the AFL considered as members not dog memberships. Therefore, the 40000 figure stated in the annual report from revenue is the total member base including those 3 gamers etc from total receipts received? That's how i read it. I'm an accountant so it may be might convoluted understanding! :)

perhaps we lost 7500 members, picked up 6422 new members, and picked up another 1078 members who were not new because they had been members prior to 2010?

You may be correct.
I supose it all depends on teh definitions they are using
- 'new' meaning never been a member before, rather than not a member last year?

They will always take the "best looking" result, which probably means that anyone not a member last year, is considered "new." I doubt that their records can identify whether "new" members have ever been registered as a member in previous years.

What are the changes going to be? I have a few point that i think need to be rectified.

Last year we had a level 3 reserved seat and upgraded to a level 1 this year. I think you should be able to pick available seats remaining from a map i.e like Ticketmaster, if you would like to change your seat at season end.

We also took the opportunity to purchase Social Club membership this year, which we have enjoyed. The only concern i have was there was no Social Club facilities for the so called MCG home games (Rich and Geel game) and i have since found out the Club makes no money from the meal service and bar at Etihad Stadium.

Other than that i think the scarf/hat and other bits and pieces you receive as part of your membership package is ok

2011 39,263 including 6,422 NEW members

2010 39,227 around 7,500 DID NOT RENEW in 2011

How does this make sense?

How did we manage to increase our membership by 36 when there were around 1,100 people less members from the pool of NEW and NON RENEWING members.

The board tried to sell some fanciful notion pulled out of Archie's arse that the move to Seaford would eventually translate into a massive increase in membership.

The board must have been signing up their dogs, cats and inflatables so that there would not be a drop in membership in the first year of the move to Seaford.

You do the maths!

Are you discounting the possibility that the board signed up their inflatables to inflate the figures?

I don't think that possibility holds much weight.

I don't think that possibility holds much weight.
But you're not discounting it as a possibility?

Too much hot air and very little substance in that suggestion B4.

A good start would be ensuring that seats in St Kilda reserved seating areas are not sold to opposition supporters on a weekly basis.

Especially after we tried to purchase an additional seat for our daughter & were told that there was a waiting list for L2 seating.

Membership services have gradually declined over the past 4-5 years & needs urgent attention.

Something other than a scarf for members would be good. I need a bigger house to store the bloody things in.

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

There are no seats available for members to reserve them, but they are available for opposition supporters??

Not to mention the fact that the purpose of a reserved seating area allocated to St Kilda members is to sit with other St Kilda members not opposition supporters.

Your point regarding membership services is also valid, regardless of the rights or wrongs of it, an awful lot of members feel like they are being taken for granted and the club does have to do something about it.

I was almost one of them.
