The bloke has awesome courage. Dives head-first into packs consistently. Also a very good overhead mark for his size. Good value for pick 100 or so.
STRENGTH THROUGH LOYALTY.

I think about #20, played a blinder first up and then faded with the usual Richmond finesse.Junction Oval wrote:Yep, proving to be a great pick-up. I wonder who identified him as a potential opportunity.
I am not sure on this, but I think that he was quite a high draft pick by Richmond. Has more pace than I thought. I like his toughness at the ball and as others have said, he is a good mark for his size.
Like peake, learning to play real football with a real team.
Lance or James??

Love Polo's handballs...quick, accurate and to better options.
Has developed into a seriously good pick-up for us.
Some say that Ross does not develop players. Polo is proof that he does.
I think the issue is that our drafters up until last year were doing quite poorly at drafting good kids. It is a bit hard to develop good AFL players from kids when you are not getting good kids.
I am very much looking forward to 2012 when we take the current 22 and look to try and get some of Hayes, Gwilt, Sippos, Ledger and Cripps into it....not to mention Walsh and Stanley.

Polo played well at AFL level in his early career. But ended up playing at Coburg because he turns it over. Which hasn't changed much.saintsRrising wrote:Some say that Ross does not develop players. Polo is proof that he does.

The difference I reckon is that at St Kilda he plays a dumbed down role from what what expected at Richmond. And is probably due to our coaching staff's lowered expectaions compared to his previous employers.
I don't think he has actually developed.
25 years of age.....originally a high draft pick...can find the ball...tough as nails.enjoying his football for the first time going into his first finals series.......yep gotta agree with you....HardSaint wrote:he's about ready to be at his best in the next 2-3

Great. As a tagger he would play more time in the middle than he did as a half back for Richmond.InkerSaint wrote:Polo's disposal count has averaged about the same but he is posting career-high contested possession and clearance figures this year.Saints43 wrote:I don't think he has actually developed.
I
There's probably a stat that says he had less bounces per game than he did at the tigers. A career low...

i agree. i cont believe people are trying to claim him as a piece of recruiting genius. he is a very known quantity. he got 3 brownlow votes in his first afl game. hardly a random player.Saints43 wrote:Polo played well at AFL level in his early career. but agree that he has had his role dumbed down for us and tailored to play within his limits - which is win ball use first option. if u can get loose get loose. thats it.
i think tigers expected him to be an actual genuine midfielder. he was a victim of high expectations. we are playing him with low exectations within his abilities and not asking too much from him. its working well.
tigers needed him to be a star. we need him to be a workhorse. thats the difference. cos he is a workhorse.
He had a really good game last night. But let's be honest he isn't a star. I'd expect him to drop out when Lenny gets back. Handy back-up next year I suppose though I'd like to see the likes of Cripps, Ledger and Sippos get a few more games under their belts next year too.
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
