I am not sure on this, but I think that he was quite a high draft pick by Richmond. Has more pace than I thought. I like his toughness at the ball and as others have said, he is a good mark for his size.

Love Polo's handballs...quick, accurate and to better options.
Has developed into a seriously good pick-up for us.
Some say that Ross does not develop players. Polo is proof that he does.
I think the issue is that our drafters up until last year were doing quite poorly at drafting good kids. It is a bit hard to develop good AFL players from kids when you are not getting good kids.
I am very much looking forward to 2012 when we take the current 22 and look to try and get some of Hayes, Gwilt, Sippos, Ledger and Cripps into it....not to mention Walsh and Stanley.

The difference I reckon is that at St Kilda he plays a dumbed down role from what what expected at Richmond. And is probably due to our coaching staff's lowered expectaions compared to his previous employers.

i agree. i cont believe people are trying to claim him as a piece of recruiting genius. he is a very known quantity. he got 3 brownlow votes in his first afl game. hardly a random player.Saints43 wrote:Polo played well at AFL level in his early career. but agree that he has had his role dumbed down for us and tailored to play within his limits - which is win ball use first option. if u can get loose get loose. thats it.
i think tigers expected him to be an actual genuine midfielder. he was a victim of high expectations. we are playing him with low exectations within his abilities and not asking too much from him. its working well.
tigers needed him to be a star. we need him to be a workhorse. thats the difference. cos he is a workhorse.
He had a really good game last night. But let's be honest he isn't a star. I'd expect him to drop out when Lenny gets back. Handy back-up next year I suppose though I'd like to see the likes of Cripps, Ledger and Sippos get a few more games under their belts next year too.
