based on many people on SS's logic because we showed "we would not be pushed around" an excellent player will fall in our lap this year for sure!. awesome!
You have all the answers Con. Sounds like you were right there at trade week. Were you a leg or a chair FFS?
Swear and attack me all day long SaintPav. Doesnt change the fact we ballsed it up (pun intended).

If you have any information to dispute me then provide it - I am all ears buddy.

What I do know is Lyon spent all 2009 telling the footy world in a very public way the LB was no good. Then in the one week of trade week he told the world he was a number 2 draft pick and he wanted top flight compo. No wonder we couldnt get a deal done.

And for anyone saying this somehow helped us through some reputational trade advantage - well I await the benefits to accrue from this.

Players for trade.
Dawson
Gilbert
Gram
Jones

Delisting
Cahill
Heyne

Rookies.
Already lost Gaertner at start of season.
Walsh for promotion
hmmm... (IMO)
I hope Blake doesn't retire and is kept on the list as a depth player
Gardiner and Baker should retire

Your players for trade seem odd to me
- Dawson and Jones have clear major weaknesses in their game that diminishes their market value dramatically meaning that you won't get nearly as good value as you give you up...
Both should stay

- Gram... his best is behind him and he's not that good... although better than this forum rates him. Should be a depth player rotating in and our

- Gilbert should be traded IMO.
He's a very overrated player who's weaknesses are covered by a successful team and a strong backline.
He's not overly fast, disposal is average at best... not damaging enough.
In a team as dominnant as we have been, we covered his weaknesses and made him look better than he is with lots of support.
He's also player number 6 of a very very good backline... and we have an abundance of potential backs... Dawson, Fisher, Clarke, Goddard, Dempster, Gwilt, Blake more or less established with Lynch, Johnson, Ray, Cripps, Winmar, Geary as potentials.
Without the additional support or a team in good form... he's been awful

Trade him for someone whilst he still has value

I'd keep Cahill... he's picked up in the 2s this year

I still think we should offer some of these players up to GWS and make a strong effort to be involved in the mini draft Sure any kid we get cant be played next season, but think was a strong position we would be in for 2013, with one of the top kids already on our list. 2012 is being spoken of as being a superdraft. We should get involved in the mini draft.

our core players (roo, fish, dal, joey, BJ, lenny) are getting on a bit and may not be around for another tilt at the flag if we try to rebuild now (perhaps BJ will be).

if the powers that be decide to have one last 2-3 year tilt at the flag with the current group who could / should we chase to get this done? i'm thinking we'd need to trade / buy a couple of stars, including trading away our 2011 draft picks.

i'm not saying this is the best way to go, but if this is what they decide then who are the realistic targets?

back-up ruckman? (assuming gards retires)
key forward? (req'd)
mid? (in & under; pace)
back?

Give it a rest Con. We're all well & truly sick of hearing the biased Collingwood version that you have obviously swallowed hook line & sinker.

The thread is regarding this upcoming trade period, I'd love to hear your opinion as to who you think the club should target & who is on the block.

We need a young mobile ruck (Stanley doesnt' look the goods), a younger big key position forward who can take a grab (besides a possible Tommy option), and a speedy goal kicking mid with good footskills. Trade should involve these kind of players. I feel that the older players who couldn't contribute to a premiership may be moved on, as clearly the future aint there.

Stanley has struggled with injury all yeah and is still very young. People in here at the start of the year were saying we needed to look at a ruckman because big ben wasn't up to scratch. Now we are all sucking his dick.
Give Stanley more time, he will come good.
As for a speedy mid that kicks goals. sylvia I'd the man. Inconsistent yes, but he plays for
Melbourne give the kid a break.

He's not even 28 yet...

Be very surprised if he was offered up.

N Winmar just signed a new deal so unlikely on the "must improve" list.

Good players must be traded to get good players:
Zac Dawson - Simpkin replaces him
Farren Ray - Nicholas Winmar
Jason Gram - Lenny Hayes replaces him, or Peak already has
Sam Gilbert - Tommy Walsh to replace
Justin Koschitzke - we need to replace him, with Walsh, Stanley or the new Port Adelaide bloke
Jarryn Geary - Cripps replaces him
Adam Schneider - Siposs replaces him
Tom Lynch - sorry, he looks really slow for mine

We need to make a big play. WE need to try and bag the new Port Adelaide forward. They'll take a list of decent players for him, they'll lose him anyway. We could go for a Mitch Clarke.

Will Johnson
Alistair Smith
Why do you want to delist these blokes?

Interesting one.

Do we think Jack Steven has improved enough this year?? Montagna out, Hayes in, come Round 1??

I wouldn't be all that upset to be honest. To me, he is quickly going down the "Late 90's Aussie Jones Route", putting media number one, footy number 2.

I heard someone mention Goddard to GWS for pick 4, I'd want Pick 1 for BJ, but Pick 4 would be enough for Joey for mine.

GWS dont have pick 4. I would prefer say pick 5 and a swap of 2nd round picks.

Given the imminent retirement of Gardiner and the fact that we need to chase a tall forward, why does everyone leave St Kilda out of calculations for Mitch Clarke?

Our midfield looks old and tired as well.
