Only 7 weeks to AFL Exchange Period (Trade Week).
Bearing in mind that this is the 2nd badly compromised draft in a row, 2012 may be a better time to be making wholesale changes.
Players that may retire
Steven Baker
Jason Blake
Michael Gardner.
Players for trade.
Dawson
Gilbert
Gram
Jones
Delisting
Cahill
Heyne
Smith
Rookies.
Already lost Gaertner at start of season.
Walsh for promotion
Overall.
If we lose all three players to retirement, I cant see many being delisted this year. We will probably only pick up the mandatory three in the draft, and promote Walsh, so we only need 4 spots. So we should go all out and try and get one of the top two kids for 2012 in the GWS 4 x 17 yr old draft held during the trade period.

Zac and Jones have done pretty well this season- and Zac is a good finals performer- what games have you been watching?borderbarry wrote:Bearing in mind that this is the 2nd badly compromised draft in a row, 2012 may be a better time to be making wholesale changes.

I reckon we see some serious wheeling & dealing.Cairnsman wrote:It's going to be one of the most anticipated trade periods for a while.
We'll get a real feel for where RL and the club think we are at.
2012 will give more insight into where the window is at and who is still on the bus.
While this years draft is 'shallow', GWS still have the 17 year olds that will be auctioned off to the highest bidder, with a few of them thought to be top 10 picks in the 2012 draft (which is said to be a corker).
IF Ross & Pelchen have decided that it's time to clear the decks & start again, the introduction of GWS is a great opportunity to get a crop of talented kids in. The disarray that Port & Melbourne are in also may provided some opportunity to get some talent into the club.

Well clearly we're hoping to trade Dawson, Gilbert, Gram & Jones and pick up sufficient draft picks to enable us to wrestle Lake from the Bulldogs.
No. Hoping to trade Dawson, Gilbert, Gram OR Jones. To gain one of the 4 kids mentioned above and maybe a high draft pick. Not trade all of them. As I said, we only need 4 vacant spots, so if the three retire we only can trade one. Get with the program you blokes.

There are some absolute guns coming through in this years draft. GWS has the top three with Patton and Coniglio being the likey top 2
Then there is the mini draft which will have O'Meara probably at number 1 and who is likened to D Swallow And Scully.
GWS will have to on-trade the players from the mini draft so team may be able to pay unders for them.

To get the deal done we're going to have to put a big name on the table like Goddard. Worthless trade if you think our window is still open however if you think we should reload for the next 3-4 years then that trade could pay wonders (2 x first rounders from 2011 draft plus pick 1 in the mini draft). Goddard and Pendlebury are still GWS's main targets even know they're contracted.borderbarry wrote:Well clearly we're hoping to trade Dawson, Gilbert, Gram & Jones and pick up sufficient draft picks to enable us to wrestle Lake from the Bulldogs.

Good time to get Pelchen into the club.
Wouldn't be suprised whatever way he and RL decide to take us.
We may be in for a major upheaval or a tweak with one omore shot at a flag.
If we go for the major rebuild, Roo, bj, Fisher, Dal, and Lenny wont be part of the next flag tilt.
Do we trade some of the quality off if this is the case?
Do we have a final crack and see bj off to GWS after next season for example, or do we continue along the lines of the recycled player?
Interesting time ahead.

Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

The last comment about seeing off BJ before he goes to GWS.....by that time he will be a free agent. I still haven't got my head around that concept. Do we know how the compensation (if any) works...? Or do we just lose players in those circumstances for nothing...?

We'd receive nothing. I follow the NBA closely and players up and leave regularly once they become free agents.Old Mate wrote:If nothing else, change is exciting....joffaboy wrote:Good time to get Pelchen into the club.

We should definitely score a good player in this weeks trade player after "we taught people a lesson" in the 2009 trade period by playing hard ball with luke ball (yes the same guy we spent all 2009 telling the football world wasnt a good player).
based on many people on SS's logic because we showed "we would not be pushed around" an excellent player will fall in our lap this year for sure!. awesome!

This is where the problem is. Those players you mentioned for trading wouldnt be wanted by any other club so we get nothing for them and then whinge we didnt trade hard enough. We either get rid of stars and rebuild ot dont trade at all. I prefer the dont trade at all approach for next season at least.Beno88 wrote:I see only four players on our list that are potentially tradable that are not 100% required players for 2012.

You have all the answers Con. Sounds like you were right there at trade week. Were you a leg or a chair FFS?Con Gorozidis wrote:We should definitely score a good player in this weeks trade player after "we taught people a lesson" in the 2009 trade period by playing hard ball with luke ball (yes the same guy we spent all 2009 telling the football world wasnt a good player).
