Baker the Sub
Surely ross is taking the piss......surely he didnt make a clear decision to go with that....
His teams effort in the box today was embarrasing......this decision alone sends a clear message to me,...
21 weeks in, still cant come to terms with a couple of thing.....

So when this was known......he was still made sub....
He is clearly a role player and has not got any of the assets required to be an effective sub...
Baker ...... Small back
Either
Geary, ray, gram as sub.......
Not difficult i would think...
Like to hear ross' philosiphy on the role of the sub, and how to best use them

No it sounds like the Tony Abbott tactic of just saying anything facts or no, will just be accepted.perfectionist wrote:Facts don't seem to matter anymore.Eastern wrote:Baker wouldn't have even been part of the team if it wasn't for 2 key players (Kosi & Zac) pulling out with gastro at the last minute !!

I personally thought Baker was okay.
Clarke and Blake were woeful IMHO.
Sydney attacked everything whilst we were more content to stand around and watch. Makes me really wonder what the hell we'll achieve in September!

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

Did half the team really have gastro??
Here was i thinking only two players did.....one easily replaced by a like emerg....
The other required twenty seconds of thought.....
Really, every scenario should be considered by a full time coaching staff...
What if zac and kosi went down 5 mins into the game......if they havent planned for that, how can they possibly cope??
Coach i suppose....thats what a coach does, makes decisions that influence games....often on the run, not from planning
Good coaches prepare well during the week
Great coaches ifluence games on match day...
John longmire made one move today....that influenced the game.....it was???

agreed. (though not that bakes is finished - he should stick around next year for mine.)saintspremiers wrote:Why didn't Gamble play instead of Mr Finished?
it would have made much more sense to have gamble come off the sub bench than baker. if gamble was available (and he didn't play yesterday) then it makes no sense to choose baker if you're going to make him sub.

The team got gastro from an off meal at a restaurant next to the hotel where they stayed last night. Not good enough. Bloody hell, sue the bastards I say.BigMart wrote:Did half the team really have gastro??

It is sheer lunacy to suggest that Ray should sit out 3 quarters because he would better sub that Baker.
You need your best players on the ground as much as possible.
Now there are better subs than Baker...but they were not available.
We assume that Gastro was not known about till late...ie last night??? with Sandy having already played yesterday.

Then SR.....like Ross, you haventcome to terms with the impact the sub can have in a tight game....
Dont make excuses for ross...
Last week, he has had blake and baker as subs, the supporters knew this was ludricous.....and the output justified their thoughts....
Planned or otherwise....dumbest call of the year....
Not sure what possible benefit could come from it....better of leaving him in the vest

Today was confirmation that our list is shot. With Lynch and Baker coming in, the guys that played at Sandy may as well not be on the list. Gardy got injured again, Baker will retire in the next 4 weeks, Heyne and Cahill will get the chop and we will have to hang on to guys like Eddy, Geary, Walsh, Archer, McQualter, Simpkin and Smith because the talent to replace them is to thin. Having a sub with out pace for the second week in a row has got me stuffed though!!

IMO it is crazy stuff to state that Ray would be better playing one quarter asa sub...rather than the whole game.
YES..you ideally want you sub to have pace and to make impact when othe players are tired....but basically all such ssuitable candidates are injured.
what you don't do is start raiding players that you need in the whole game just to be the sub.
As for Ross and subs...when he has had te cattle to choose from the subs we have had have, have been good in the role. we have just run out of cattle. This week was made worse with the gastro...

Agree in that we do not run deep enough. On the Ball wrote:Today was confirmation that our list is shot. !!
All teams get injuries ad s you need 25 players. We do not have the depth.
Last year the kids were good...but by and large have been dreadful for years.
