512 days exposes the corrupt AFL
So since Round 1 2010 ....
- we have played several teams four times in H&A.
- we have played Collingwood SIX times (including finals)
- new born babies have learnt to walk
- and talk
BUT
we haven't played Sydney
In fact it will be 512 days on Sunday since we last played Sydney in Round 1 last year.
512 days !!!!!!
Adrian Anderscum - please explain that in the context of a FAIR draw?

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Does it really matter??
Does it really show a corrupt AFL??
You sound suprised that it's not a fair draw?? This is odd considering that the teams have played some sides once and some sides twice for 20+ years, the fact that we don't have a fair draw has not been a secret.
Of all the things to complain about with regard to the fixture, I would of thought the qty of interstate trips, back to back interstate trips, 6 day breaks etc would rate a lot more highly than how many days there have been between games against one opponent.
Maybe if we didn't play them at all this season, it would be worth a "the afl is corrupt" call but not because we played them in Rd 1 last year and in Rd 22 this year.

The long break has rankled Saints supporters, who expressed their feelings on the club's fans site.
"New-born babies have learnt to walk and talk, but we haven't played Sydney,'' one said.
Fans also pointed out that St Kilda had played several teams four times in the past two home and away seasons.
The Saints have played Collingwood six times - including two Grand Finals - since they last met the Swans.
"Please explain that in the context of a fair draw?'' they asked of the AFL's Adrian Anderson.

In reality do we want to play Sydney all that often? We need to take EVERYTHING into consideration. We need around 30,000 at Etihad to even look like making a profit. Playing Sydney we would struggle to get to that figure.
Playing them once a year at ANZ where they DON'T have the same advantage they have at the SCG would keep me happy, preferably on a Saturday Night !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!
Out of all interstate sides we play here, Sydney would be one I'd rather play as they still have quite a strong Melbourne following and membership base here.Eastern wrote:In reality do we want to play Sydney all that often? Good to see the media have picked up on this.
But to answer other posters,
NO I am not the least surprised at inequities in the Fixture.
I have ranted about this many many many many times before.
This is just another post, from a different angle, to re-emphasise this corruption.
Posters saying they are quite happy to not play Sydney are missing the point about what is right and fair.
We shouldn't be playing sides like North, Adelaide and Freo four times (and Collingwood SIX times) whilst we play another once.
Nor should sides be shunted into or out of certain timeslots and opponents based on revenue.
That is not a fair playing field.
It is the single biggest issue facing the game today.
Yet it can easily be fixed by just changing the Draw so that it is totally systematic or totally random. Either method ensures that all teams are on an equal footing as opposed to the current fixture which is riddled with special deals.
Internationally our H&A fixture is a laughing stock.
No other senior competitions would allow cosy deals to override the integrity of their competition.
Last Saturday I heard Dimwit on two separate radio shows admitting that the fixture was a huge issue.
I felt like yelling down the radio "WELL FIX IT THEN!".
His problem is that he puts dollars before integrity.

So lets get this straight. You call it corrupt which is rubbish anyway but lets just go with that term to please you. So you want systematic or random draw which still would be just as corrupt as it isnt level for everryone but the difference would be the AFL would get millions less for the TV rights and eventually sides would go because the AFL wouldnt be able to afford to keep them. If it cant be 100% fair they may as well make as much money as they can so it ensures every club stays. Imagine the stupidity of GC and Lions only playing once a year.Enrico_Misso wrote:Good to see the media have picked up on this.

Imagine the whinging on here if we got WCE and Essendon twice this year but only once last year. Threads would start with AD is corrupt and we get picked on.

This game is a nothing game for non-supporters however so it is easy to see why it isn't fixtured either at a better time or date. Simply nobody really cares. I know I don't apart from the fact we are playing.
It is like the Power vs. anyone at this stage, nobody cares = lack of funds generated from the fixture.

So perhaps Collingwood and Carlton should play four times a year.plugger66 wrote:If it cant be 100% fair they may as well make as much money as they can so it ensures every club stays. Imagine the stupidity of GC and Lions only playing once a year.
And given the popularity of local derbies I think maybe we could milk them to do six a year - one a month.
Of course no-one will want to play GWS or GCS so maybe they could play each other every week when they aren't doing derbies.
That should maximise the revenue.
