Looking like St Kilda v Ess Week 1 of Finals..
With the Swans going down today to the Tigers this now looks the most likely scenario for week one.
However the Saints have no easy games left and so could still finish 8th....or even outside the 8 if we lose all 3.

No.
We only need to win one more game to finish sixth.
Essendon have one vs Port (win), one vs West Coast in the west (lose), and a buy. Sydney are a game and percentage behind. They have us (lets say they win), Geelong at SS (lose), and brisbane (win). Lets say we beat only North Melbourne. That leaves us and sydney equal on points but us with better percentage in sixth place.
But yes, looks as though it'll be Essendon week one of finals.
BY GOD it would be sweet to win that one!!

Posted this in another thread. I'm doing poorly in footy tips
As I see it:
Lose all three finish 9th behind North.
Beat Sydney only 6th v Essendon
Beat North only 6th v Sydney
Beat Carlton only 6th v Sydney
Lose to Sydney only 6th v Sydney
Lose to North only 6th v Essendon
Lose to Carlton only 6th v Essendon
win all three 6th v Essendon
This is based on
Essendon beating Port and losing to West Coast
Sydney losing to Geelong and beating Brisbane
North beating Freo and Richmond
and percentage staying pretty much the same.

I think you might be right, i just did a ladder predictor:
6th STKILDA 50
7th ESSENDON 46
8th SYDNEY 42
With Essendon:
Loss - West Coast
Win - Port Adelaide
Bye
Sydney
Loss - StKilda
Loss - Geelong
Win - Brisbane
So unless Essendon lose to Port or Sydney beat us or Geelong then that will be how the ladder finishes
I really dont want to play essendon we cant find a way to beat them!

I think in a final we will destroy them.
If you look at when they've knocked us off, mostly it's been when we've been off or they're been little on the line.
Besides, we're due.

Firstly, consolidate 6th position be beating the Swans and North. If it's safe, use the Carlton match as a "junk match." Rest a few, including McEvoy, Rooey and anyone else injured. We do not need to wear ourselves out to beat the Blues - what have we got to gain??
Essendon have a Bye in the last match, so they will be fresh for their first final against us. Let's be "smart" about the finals - we will need everything going for us.

weird one for me because a 7th placing vs the swans wouldn't have bothered me personally (would be my 7th saints game for the year which is 2 more than the avg) but on the other hand, of course I want us in Melbourne and not have to travel...given I suspect a Perth trip the next weekend
I can't believe Eddie McGuire and I have the Celtic Football Club in common...he should be a Hun
maybe after a long season that's good prep for finals - they'll have plenty of run in their legs, and that's usually our problem with them.stevie wrote:Don't forget the bummers play port in second last round - the equivalent of witches hats. With the bye the last Rd, not an ideal prep for finals week 1
i'm really not happy with this turn of events. check out the trend:
2009 R8: 19 point win
2009 R20: 2 point loss
2010 R8: 12 point loss
2010 R18: 33 point loss
2011 R3: 52 point loss
at this rate, they'll beat us by 80 points.

Good point - actually I would love a finals matchup with the Dons just for the chance to bundle them out of contention.doggerel wrote:I reckon our chances are better if the match is played at the MCG where we have the recent finals experience advantage over the Dons.
Plus if we can't beat our opposition when it counts we don't deserve to be in finals, and the sooner we are reloading for 2012 the better.
Glass definitely half full for this scenario. We shouldn't be asking for or expecting gimmes after the season we've just witnessed.
We should throw ithungry for a premiership wrote:So basically, if we want to play Sydney week one of finals, WED BE BETTER OFF LOSING to them this week so that Essendon don't catch them. Interesting. Essendon week one of finals it is.
