No real surprise that we were off the pace today....
Our best "kids" (as in young players) are:
* In the slightly older one now all in the first 22 = Ben, Steven, Armo and Geary
* In the new crop of the youngest ones all injured as in Cripps, Ledger and Siposs
I would add in Stanley too, as I still have faith that he can make it.....he has just had a horrid year where everything including injury has gone wrong for him.
2012 is starting to look better and better. Hayes, Gwilt, Cripps, Ledger and Siposs to all try and push into the 22 next year.
Bug Ben will be another year older and more practiced at his tapwork.

given his record with falcons I could understand Bird Ben but Bug Ben?saintsRrising wrote:.............Bug Ben will be another year older and more practiced at his tapwork.
when looking at the teams today their differance could be the number of 'senior' or AFL players each team had
yes there may have been quite a few Saints BUT there were only 2 with anything more than 10 games at AFL level- although their years added up to nearly 400.
there were at least 5 'regular' Demons players aiming for return to AFL side. Jarrah, Sylia etc.
fastest and furtherest Fev ran was to tackle Bakes- who said he didn't hear him coming- he travelled from about the 50 line to neat interchange bench..
then trotted back
one of his goals should have been another players as if he had shepparded it would have gone through But fev had to mark on the line and kick it. he had the Casey reserves players cheering him on from the grassed mound.

From Sam Landsberger's (Herald Sun VFL Writer) Twitter:
Gardiner struggled. Baker best... yet again. And I liked the look of young Will Johnson, clever forward. Makes things happen.
Every Casey player had at least 11 touches. It was a rout in every sense of the word.
STRENGTH THROUGH LOYALTY.

wouldn't really call cheapies from the goal line a solid display fev. but all in the eye of the beholder.Sandringham coach Brett Lovett all but declared his side out of the finals race after the Zebras took until the third quarter to kick a goal.
St Kilda forward Will Johnson kicked the first three for Sandringham, with the Zebras first goal coming with the margin already at 51 points and the game iced.
Johnson tagged Casey's James Wall in the first half before shifting to attack and setting alight the forward arc.
Steven Baker again put his hand up for an AFL recall with 27 touches through the middle in another dominant display.

I'm not so sure where all the Fev hate is coming from. He was actually pretty good, he embarrassed our so called talented backline kids at times yesterday. That run down was fantastic, I saw it coming from a long way away and it was impressive, he ran off his man for over 50m, tackled Bakes, forced a throw in, and mind you it was a 3 on 1 with Fev being the one. He cherry picked one goal which was going straight through the middle (he almost took it out of the goal umpires hands it was that bad). But at the same time, he gave a few away, kicked 5, and if his mids looked for him the way we look for Roo he would have kicked 10 easily. He looked unfit in that untucked jumper, but he wouldn't be the worst mature age rookie (security) out there.
We got smashed, but all in all I was disappointed in Tommy Walsh. 'Paulie' (Cahill), Archer and Walsh all looked pretty ordinary to be honest. I was really looking forward to watching Walsh, but despite previous comments showing a lot of love for him, I couldn't see it yesterday. Don't get me wrong, I want to see him play and succeed for us more than anyone, but I'm just looking from my perspective.
Simpkin and Lynch did some good things but didn't exactly look a cut above VFL level which was frustrating, especially considering I was hoping Lynch starred (with Gamble potential injury). It was very one sided but noone really stood out as though they were playing at a level below where they should be.
Maybe Bakes is the only exception, but only if we had a matchup and while Dempster and Jones are killing it, I can't see him getting a gig. Sorry to be all doom and gloom, but after seeing it first hand, I just wanted to give my honest rundown of the match.

THE form of St Kilda ruckman Michael Gardiner has hit the skids. He mustered just eight disposals for Sandringham yesterday.

is that why Ross says we will cut hard...because he is a realist and sees what you've just seen....St Ick wrote:I'm not so sure where all the Fev hate is coming from. How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

You're welcome. I wouldn't read that much into what I said (as far as being worthy of a call up on one game) though, as I was really only paying close attention for the last quarter. Simpkin must have had a ripping good first 2 or 3 to get named best, though, as I didn't see him do anything much at all in the time I was there.Junction Oval wrote:Thanks for taking the time to write this impressive piece APS.
I am sure many other Posters will appreciate the time and comments that you have put in.
Sounds as though only Tommy Walsh showed enough for possible inclusion against the experienced Pies and/or future matches.
