Mike Sheehan's football knowledge
Given that his job is to live and breath football 24/7 he has a very limited knowlwdge of the game. I would score him 1 or 2 out of ten.

he really seems out of form. He needs to work harder on his basic football knowledge. I don't like his body language on that show. Doesn't seem that he is raelly enjoying himself either. Not sure, but think his time on that show might be up.matrix wrote:sometimes i like what he says when i used to watch on the couch
and then out comes a belter and you think what on earth are you on about and wonder if he has any idea

I think he's struggling to come to grips with the way footy is played now.
He read the game well in the 90s, but I think he lacks understanding of many of the new-age fundamentals (the press, clearances, zoning etc).

That's an excellent point. He was ok in the 70s and 80s when the game was a lot simpler but the modern game has passed him by.dcstkfc wrote:I think he's struggling to come to grips with the way footy is played now.

I prefer someone like Rohan Conolly from te Age. Seems to have a better grasp of the modern game than Mike.

If you're going to slam the bloke at least spell his name correctly. Mike Sheahan.SaintPav wrote:Given that his job is to live and breath football 24/7 he has a very limited knowlwdge of the game. I would score him 1 or 2 out of ten.

His football knowledge is about as good as my spelling.Little Dozer wrote:If you're going to slam the bloke at least spell his name correctly. I like him. He's generally very fair, reasoned, and doesn't go over the top. His latest article re the pies and what he wrote about Luke Ball re the saints was rubbish, but I'm prepared to cut him some slack. His observations are generally very good. I like On The Couch better than Footy Classified for the fact that they all appear to want to discuss the game rather than create headlines.

Yeah, but Moods, he just doesn't do it often enough especially when it counts.Moods wrote:I like him. He's generally very fair, reasoned, and doesn't go over the top. And I just don't like his body language at all. Somethings wrong there Moods.

Mike Sheahan is the best of a bad bunch at HeraldScum;stinger wrote:i like andrew bolt...lots evengringo wrote:He is the same as Alan jones, Deryn Hinch and Andrew Bolt, no one likes them but they sell papers, ads etc.
Sam Edmund is funny but too smartarsey, the rest are clowns and winos that struggle with rudimentary journalistic duties.
Andrew Bolt however is one of the most awful people on the planet. He is Australia's Glenn Beck/Richard Littlejohn. Using their privilege to ruin the lives millions of people.
Don't wanna turn this towards politics as some things are more important, but wanted to put my dislike of right-wing hatemonger on record.

What about the morning segment on Hungry for Sport with Pat. It goes something like this..
Kevin: Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Pat: Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Kevin: Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Pat: Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Kevin: But Pat
Pat: KEVIN.
Kevin: Pat
Pat: Kevin
Kevin: PAT
Pat: KEVIN.

I agree to a point, Mike doesn't generally go over the top but he doesn't mind it from time to time.Moods wrote:I like him. He's generally very fair, reasoned, and doesn't go over the top. He also doesn't mind contradictory whacking ie St Kilda didn't rate Luke Ball but offered him more money than Collingwood or St Kilda didn't rate him highly enough and accepted nothing at the trade table because they wanted too much for him at the trade table.
I do definitely prefer OTC rather the Footy Classified.
Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friends.

The guy's a stooge for one agenda. How can he or anyone who 'appreciates' him possibly be taken seriously.
No one is that mentally inflexible.
He's a gimmick.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
