Considering Blake will probably make way for Zac next week, what is the great point of Blake playing one seniors game, when we all know full well what he brings to the table?Saintersss wrote:5 weeks out from finals, it's time to settle a team. Its called trying to win every game possible. Maybe, just maybe, Tommy will get a run next week against the Pies.
Although that may sound ridiculous, perhaps Ross and the selectors are playing safe with the games we must win.
No one expects us to beat the Pies and it's not the end of the world, or season, if we don't. Maybe he'll be more prepared to experiment with Tommy in that situation.

That is more reason to play someone who has played many games before otherwise you are dropping someone after just one game.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:Considering Blake will probably make way for Zac next week, what is the great point of Blake playing one seniors game, when we all know full well what he brings to the table?Saintersss wrote:5 weeks out from finals, it's time to settle a team. AND WHY has he not played a game?
Walsh should have been playing AFL football at least ten weeks ago.
His form is worthy of selection and the need for developing young players such as Walsh and providing them with an opportunity is paramount to any chance we might have.
We are not going to win anything with the same old retreads.
Selecting Blake is a waste of time and another opportunity gone begging.
We are as you say "battling" and that's about as good as it gets with this conservative nonsense!

If you do, has Blake been ripping it up in the VFL?plugger66 wrote:Good team. Would have liked Tom Simpkin in or even Warrick Andreoli so it shows RL has guts. By the way how many here see theses seconds players week inand week out? Thanks for answering not at all. I thought so.
You seem to be of the opinion that those in charge of all AFL clubs (or at least ours) are perfect in everything they do because they're "in the inner sanctum", or because they "see every VFL game" and have a whole lot of data, etc.
Here's a newsflash for you. They aren't. Some of them actually have weaknesses and make mistakes, in spite of being right in the middle of it all and believe it or not, some of those on the "outside" are actually able to see where those weaknesses are and make correct calls on them. Maybe you aren't, because you have your head so far up their asses, but please just speak for yourself. You sure as hell don't speak for all of us.

As I've said, if we're not good enough to beat an injury ravaged Freo, who haven't beaten us in ages, are playing us off a 6 day break, on our home ground, without having to go in "fully armed", then we might as well pack it in for the year.plugger66 wrote:Its called trying to win every game possible. And I like the way you conveniently bring up what I said two years ago on a regular basis, without mentioning the defining point that I would only leave someone out if there was a better option to play in their place. My oath I would. I have guts. Something you don't seem too familiar with.

happy with blake - dependable and gives 100%.
like everyone i'm champing at the bit to see walsh play, but would like to see him up forward, not in for zac and out again next week.
we may have missed his chance as ross seems to be settling on a team and at the moment there's no room for a first gamer. hope i'm wrong as i think this year should be about next year - but can see why ross would want to give the players the best possible chance at going deep into september (and maybe past).

I dont have guts, I have logic and a forward was brought in for a forward and a back for a back. How arrogant are you saying what you said. We are also on a 6 day break. Freo are 2 points behind is. Yes they have injuries but that doesnt mean it is time to experiment especially as a new player is likely to only get one week. Better to give one week to an experienced guy.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:As I've said, if we're not good enough to beat an injury ravaged Freo, who haven't beaten us in ages, are playing us off a 6 day break, on our home ground, without having to go in "fully armed", then we might as well pack it in for the year.plugger66 wrote:Its called trying to win every game possible. Bit of a tease with Walsh imo. You hear all these great things about the bloke, regularly in the best at Sandy, big powerful lad etc. Ross saying he's in the mix and so on. It all provides a lot of anticipation and excitement to see the bloke play. I must say I am disappointed when selections come in and he's never there.

When I used to play footy form in a game was important for selection, but form on the training track was also important.
We have closed sessions that no one sees from the public, so we don't know the full story on selection.
Tommy may not be as up with the game plan as the Blake...
These are things that we don't know, unless any of you have been to a closed session?

Again you're misinterpreting and twisting what I'm saying. At least you're consistent. Maybe get someone with a bit more intellect to read it for you and explain it, before you respond.plugger66 wrote:Just one comment. I said that they're not perfect. Where the f*** did anyone say they know more than Ross Lyon? Or that those in charge of our club make more mistakes than anyone on here? I just pointed out that they may not be PERFECT and that some on the outside may actually be able to spot the areas where their weaknesses/imperfections lie. Maybe you can't spot anything like that, even when you follow the club as closely as you do, but again, please speak for yourself. Again, you don't speak for any of the rest of us, or see what we see. You most certainly don't speak for me. If you think they're perfect in all they do and that they couldn't do anything better then you may have your head even further up their asses than I thought.
You're obviously not familiar with the saying sometimes you don't "see the forest for the trees", or at least that you don't understand what it means. Sometimes those on the "inside" don't see what's going on because they're so caught up in it, or because the pressure gets on top of them, or because they in fact are not perfect, or whatever. That does not mean that someone on the "outside", who has the "overview of the forest" can't see what's going on, or where things are falling down, or not going as well as they could be.
But just because they can spot that one thing doesn't mean that they would do a better job if they were on the "inside", in the heat of battle, as you seem to be suggesting I'm suggesting.
If your theory that only those on the "inside" can get things "right" was correct, then no-one from "outside" would have said that drafting Andrew Lovett, for instance, was a bad idea. But there would have been many (on the "outside") who knew in their guts that it was a bad idea and despite being on the "inside" and meeting him and getting to read all the recommendations, etc, our "insiders" did get it wrong, horribly, I think most would agree. Does that mean I'm suggesting that those who got it "right" would do a better job overall than those on the "inside", if they took over their role. Hell no. It just means that on this occasion they read the situation better and made the better call. I'm sure you'll try to suggest I am, though and bring it up on a regular basis for the next few years. Maybe someone will believe you.

Not sure why people have to pot guys once they are selected, hardly their fault.
And who said they dont get things wrong. They see these guys play every week you dont. They see these guys train you dont. They see their attitude you dont. And then you say it is a gutless selection for not picking a person who has been playing up forward lately, in the backline for just one week. I am sure you would have mentioned before that when playing new guys they should be given a period in the ones to prove themselves. Well it is most likely they will be given one week as Zac is back next week so a forward playing back will only get one week and be dropped again.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:Again you're misinterpreting and twisting what I'm saying. Why do people carry on like they have ADD and cant wait until the player is right to go.
I laugh when we get the argument that he is going great at Sandy.
Heres a tip players who are regularily ripped by the mob on here, Raph and Geary, are head and shoulders above the rest at Sandy as well.
I dont know how many of you get to the VFL but it is a slightly different game to the AFL.
I am keen to see Tommy play and do well also, however I dont want him to be burned just because fans have an impatient instant gratification Gen Y mentality.

We arent going to win the Grand Final this year, just a shame w dont get a player like Fasolo.
Dont worry about Plugger, he just agrees with whatever the coaches say or do, if they said jump of a bridge he would. He wants to feel like he has a superior foootball knowledge that thinks a like with the professionals, i see that alot at the football. In saying that i sense that Plugger is a very intelligent person.
