So what should Armo do as a forward. Run forward of the ball, not tackle a player if he has it. I dont get what him or another player could do. If you cant give me a different player can you at least tell me how the player should play in the forward line.Old Mate wrote:Honestly, I doubt we have any other players that could play in the forward line to kick goals. We went in with McQualter, Eddy, Dempster and Jones, whereas Collingwood had Macaffer, Sidebottom, Beames and Blair.
I couldn't see any of our four ever kick more than 2 goals, whereas those Pies are all capable of 3+
Isn't it obvious that our deficiency is kicking goals? We're a good team however we are not perfect. I would like to see our forwards being more offensive. Too much emphasis on defence imo.

Watched him play on the Gold Coast.
Me and the old man pointed out a few things he needed to work on from the stands but hey he is playing AFL not me. Alot of things go on behind the scenes, roles, jobs to do etc.
While I didn't think it was his best game by any means, he did seem to be running around alot.
I was pretty impressed by the stadium, however there weren't anywhere near the amount of people I thought there would be.
Was nice to have breakfast with the Australian Rugby Union team ( Wallabies) this morning though. now some of these dudes are monsters.
Anyway nice trip, 4 points in the bag and now to Fremantle and the despised Collingwood.

Do you look like a bigger version of Armo because there was someone there who looked like Armo. Where you sitting on ground level about 60 metres from goal. Tat on the neck.DWOODROW wrote:Watched him play on the Gold Coast.

Well you do look like Armo then. Pretty good pickup by me even if I say so myself. No I was in the front row. Terrible seat. Had a bit on my hands actually, between kids, getting drinks, trying to talk to the old man, trying not upset mum making sure everyone was fed and watching the game, I must say I was a little tired. Nice to catch up with Dave after the game though.
Met Raph Clarke as well who is an absolute champ of a guy if you ask me. Nicky Dal Santo was happy to have a chat as was Milne. Nice blokes.

Nice to hear DWOODROW, I'm glad you had a nice night and the family all got to catch up with Dave.
He's due for 50 games in Round 24, anyone going to come down for the occasion?

So what did you and your old man work out for Dave? Oh BTW he had a rather large strapping on a calf in the second half. Is he carrying something?
As for this thread. Armo is a good mid and was playing well earlier in the year. Unfortunately we were losing most of those games, with a lot to do with our non existant forward pressure. Seems like Jack Steven was moved into Armo's position and Armo forward.
To me this has been a great move. Steven with Polo have been doing the job in the middle with Armo adding real forward pressure. I think it is no co-incidence this move has been one of the reason we have won 8 out of ten.
It is also good for Armo to know that he is certainly in the top 22 and can play more than one position. This flexibility not only helps his football but certainly helps the team. Would also give him tremendous determination to get back into the mids.
All good for Armo and the team so far.
Lance or James??

He copped a bit of a corky against Adelaide. Take a while to get over but tried to run through it.
No need to apologise for anything. Theres always to sides to every story and two people are never going to agree on everything they talk about.
When it comes to family with me though I tend to be a little one eyed and see red. Love the little bugger as with the rest of my family.
The position he is in as HFF I don't particularly like but he is getting a game. A couple of times when the ball was on the wing, the forward 50 was open and Dave was near centre half forward. We mentioned he should start pushing towards the goal square as there was no one there. Just little things but it is a lot easier seeing where to go when in the stands.
St kilda are coming away with the points even if it is a bit scrappy. The real test will be in the next 4 - 5 weeks to see where they end up before finals.
He will be better for the run this year and will get better. Still has some good football still to play.
As for Jack Steven I didn't even notice him the other night and he still had 27 possessions or something. I guess this is a good sign as Dal Santo does much the same thing to me. Just don't notice him that much but still racks up the possessions. Got to be good for the pointy end of the season.
Anyway had a good time. Kids loved the flags at the end and couldn't see a thing in the rooms after the game. hahahahaha

Look we all understand, family is always protective of family. Imagine being a brother of Raph or Ryan Gamble and reading what is posted about them on here. I would go mental.
Anything I have posted about Armo (and about any player) is my observations only and never meant to be personal, and when critical, hopefully it is about their football and constructive.
Armo is the type of player that will mature later and looks to be getting better every year. he reminds me of Andrew Thompson (with a better kick) who didn't get picked up by the Saints until he was 24 and played nearly ten years for us.
The Saitns problem in the mids is that it is all very one paced. there is no really quick player. Dal and Steven are quickish but not explosive, anyone else including Armo and when Lenny gets back is well not slow, but a bit one paced.
Armo needs to be able to get free a bit more at the clearances. As he doesn't have Jack Steven's pace, he needs to develop the skill and technique to do it in other ways. With an endurance animal like Lenny as a mentor he will develop those skills and I can see himm being a valuable inside mid for us for years to come. To get experience in his current role is all good in my opinion.

have won about 7 of 9 games. Surely winning is more important then Armo playing in the middle of the ground all game or even most of it.

for that position he would have been played there already. Got any names for me?
Honestly, I doubt we have any other players that could play in the forward line to kick goals. Like I said, too much emphasis on defence.
But I agree Armo has shown in the last that he can kick goals but I think players mindset in that position is about defending and not attacking which is so wrong since you need to lol goals to win games and they are the forwards!
