I noticed that Jason Dunstall was very guarded (as he always is re anything Hawthorn) on both Fox and MMM regarding Pelchen's departure from the Hawks !!InkerSaint wrote:There's a few interesting posts on the Hawthorn Bigfooty board. In a nutshell, the word is Pelchen had some conflict at the Hawks over job responsibilities that culminated in him handing in his resignation. Apparently he had Clarkson's support in the dispute who was sorry to see him go.
He had discussions with 3 or 4 clubs before settling on the Saints. Sounds like a win for him and a win for us.

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!
They are also warning everyone to strap themselves in for this coming trade period.
They say he will be harsh.
I don't do harsh.
First thing that comes into my mind is what he will do with Lenny, am I on the wrong kind of thought process here?

Agree. The more resources the better as far as I'm concerned.InkerSaint wrote:There's a few interesting posts on the Hawthorn Bigfooty board. Maybe behind all the talk and the theories both Pelchen and the Hawks just needed a break from each other.
And I'd be far more concerned if we'd just announced "Joe Bloggs" as our new Head of Football.

From Saints website article:
and Nettlefold said:Pelchen will be responsible for leadership and strategic direction across all areas of the Football Department.
“Over the last three years, St Kilda Football Club has been undertaking significant change and this appointment continues that direction of growth and improvement.â€

SURELY Lenny would be safe... Or at least I damn well hope so! On Vets list, so surely isn't costing us much.
I would be more concerned for Bakes/Blake/Kosi - at least clearing out those first two names and putting Roo's salary on the vets list could see us find the coin for that forward we want.
Not a fan of 'harsh' either, but getting rid of Lenny would be sealing shut any sort of premiership window we may have, which is a bit TOO drastic IMO. Blake/Bakes/Kosi could just be collateral to help get someone else...
Besides, this draft is weak. We are better trying one more time with Lenny then clearing out the list the following year if we still can't get that flag.

He seems to have been brought in at a very senior "NEW" level - Head of Football. As posted earlier, the Saints President is on good terms with the Hawks President and you would assume that any "personality irregularaties" would have been canvassed.
Let's assume that it's a great deal for the Saints. His "performance" will ultimately supply the answer for all to see.

Pelchen quits Hawks Michael Gleeson - Age Newspaper
June 4, 2011
The man who built Hawthorn's premiership side and oversaw the list that has them back in the top four and in contention for another flag yesterday stunningly quit the club.
The Hawks' general manager of player personnel and strategy, Chris Pelchen, abruptly resigned with no indication of why or where he was going. A statement from Hawthorn announcing the news only confirmed the resignation and gave no reason for the decision.
There is no evidence he has left to join another club, nor to accept a position outside of football, heightening speculation that he was forced

Hutchison being mischievous. The senior coach calls the shots about who plays, where they play and how they play. This will not change, so long as the senior coach is the senior coach.Spinner wrote:Hutch reporting that he'll be Ross Lyons boss. Don't think I like that.
IMO Pelchen is onboard to procure us some good young talent and make sure that we continue to.

What really happened at the Hawks for his sudden resignation is my underlying question? As they say, where there is smoke, there is likely to be fire. Time will tell
On the surface, it seems like a great decision, but why the Newly Created "position" within the existing structure? The question is, is Pelchen that good that he could command such a position, or, did the Board decide that his qualifications demanded such a positionI heard conflict over his "redefinition" inside the club.

maybe Pelchen kept pestering Clarkson to give him a couple of flawed players to dupe the unsuspecting during trade week and Clarkson wouldn't buy in and told Jeff he'd nicknamed Pelchen, SEC. Kennett got rid of him straight away..Junction Oval wrote:Gringo posted :On the surface, it seems like a great decision, but why the Newly Created "position" within the existing structure? Hawks kept Crawford to 34, Lenny isn't going anywhere.
But I'd be worried if I were:
- Gardiner
- Blake
- Baker
- Koschitzke
- McQualter
- Clarke
- Polo

Pelchen left Hawthorn as he wanted a role like this and Hawthorn didn't want to give him one.
Pelchen will be Ross' boss.
Pelchen will have his fingers in a lot pie across all areas of the club and the rebuild will now begin at the end of the season.
I don't love all the picks he has made at the Hawks - early rd DP including Thorpe Dowler and Muston have been deadset shockers - but has made some very good late picks, Shiels and Savage again proving him as a good long term planner - but seemingly recruiting won't be his role.
I welcome change.
Welcome Chris.

Baker will retire.
Blake will probably retire.
McQualter will be delisted.
Kosi is contracted for next year (unfortunately).
Polo is probably another Pattison.
Raph will be around for a few more years yet.

Shake the tree HARD Pelchen!
The rotten apples will fall out quickly.
Just because the team may be firing at the moment, I don't get the feeling we have a solid team balance for the near future.
Maybe I'm wrong, but if nothing else, it puts the players on notice. Any quality new senior manager does that at any organization.

Because he is known to be a culler. See Hawthorn 2004->2005 (admittedly they were much worse than we are now)ausfatcat wrote:why does everyone think pelchen appointment means we are going to dump everyone over 22 and tank/rebuild ?
