So will he be involved with recruiting, or is this a new role for him?
Appears the rumour on here last week about Ross and Chris having coffee was on the money.
I hope this is a sign of the club giving Ross the support he needs as he enters a phase of reinvention, and not that they want to ensure that Ross could be moved on without too much damage
Why am I uneasy?

Do we get to give them our first round draft pick for them, or will he stamp out our "throwing away our first round pick" strategy?plugger66 wrote:Apparently we can have the Beau's, Dowler and Musten as well as Mitch Thorp.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:Cool. Any chance he could bring Savage and Suckling with him?
YOU GET WHAT YOU SETTLE FOR.
Good football capital and a very good get. Hopefully will push for a focus on skill kickers.

Drain left months ago, and you'd think it would have been part of the announcement if Hutchison was stepping aside.
My guess is this is a new role.

So why did he leave Hawthorn?
Was there a problem?
Seems like an unusual time to leave one club and join another.

Lance or James??

There were rumours at the time that he was pushed. Don't know if there is any truth or what was behind his departure from Hawthorn !! !!joffaboy wrote:So why did he leave Hawthorn?

Pretty happy with this appointment personally. Understand he was very highly rated at the Hawks, and as Snoop suggested, when he left Hawks earlier in the year there was a lot of surprise. Talk at the time was he left due to his role being changed up a bit... Makes sense considering he is walking into a very major management role at the Saints.
Also, if memory serves me correctly, he has been a bit part in a lot of Hawthorn's trade weeks for the past few years and was renowned to be very good at getting the absolute best deal for them with their trades. Works in a very similar way to Collingwood - the other clubs hate them, but they typically get what they want.
Interesting he is also head of 'strategic direction.' Probably a very important role for the Saints moving forward, so sounds like we have a very highly credentialed man to do it!
Football managers typically have a hand in list management/recruiting too, so I'd say he'd have a bit of a role within that department, but shouldnt be taking over by any means.

Sorry but I fail to believe they may have thought he was good at his job and worthwhile krrping around, but they didn't "highly rate him" as a superstar otherwise they would not have mucked him around and would have moved heaven and earth to keep him.thirty-seven!? wrote:he was very highly rated at the Hawks.

There's a few interesting posts on the Hawthorn Bigfooty board. In a nutshell, the word is Pelchen had some conflict at the Hawks over job responsibilities that culminated in him handing in his resignation. Apparently he had Clarkson's support in the dispute who was sorry to see him go.
He had discussions with 3 or 4 clubs before settling on the Saints. Sounds like a win for him and a win for us.

Yeah, that wouldn't ever happen at a big AFL club *cough* Collingwood *cough*ausfatcat wrote:Sorry but I fail to believe they may have thought he was good at his job and worthwhile krrping around, but they didn't "highly rate him" as a superstar otherwise they would not have mucked him around and would have moved heaven and earth to keep him.
