Observations from tonight

Post: # 1106384Post fugazi »

Just got back from the game:

From where I was sitting it looked like:

Gilbert has got his mojo back, some great efforts and break away speed.

Polo had a better night than I thought, when I check his stats 22 Disposals, 11 contested and 6 tackles....I thought he was ordinary.

Same with Schneider, seemed to do nothing until last Q, but his stats say different: 10 contested possies and 5 clearances, good game evidently -n just didn't notice it.

Peake continues to be a real asset especially in the last qtr with his run

Roo struggled and looks to be carrying an injury

Gwilt was great until his injury...we will miss his excellent kicking

Gamble, albeit 2 goals and a good finisher, seems a waste of a spot, no pressure or strength in a contest....much prefer Lynch.

Gram can't or won't tackle, otherwise good

Raph, best game for a long time, someone has taught him how to kick low and hard as opposed to chippy up and under rubbish.

Steven was quiet, but seemed to be trying hard

McEvoy was thrashed, after 3 really good weeks, was beaten by NicNat....who will be a freak when he grows up!

Thought we were gone at 3Q time, gutsy effort.

I was watching Polo and though he may have had more, he played really well, was in good positions and did lots of 1%ers. I thought he was good under pressure this week compared to the last couple, he did try to hit the roof straight above his head at one point though. I like what he gave tonight, keep it up Marco Chicken.

Nic Nat isn't far off freak now, Schnieder was really good and was closer to goal than usual, Mac evoy didn't disgrace himself, Gamble is a harasser he gets to the kicker and pressures, he was right up the ground again helping out and has really grown on me, he is a guy who puts in an effort. Gilbert was awesome, the cockiness is back and he is taking them on and winning again, last quarter run was incredible at pace. Steven looked like they had targeted his game and didn't allow him his usual clearence work

Call me crazy, but I thought Mac was actually quite solid tonight.

Yeah, Nattawhatsit was good and all, but he get his team over the line? No.

I also came away thinking Ben was far from embarrassed tonight. We got the win and Ben will learn heaps from playing against those two massive critters tonight, but overall I thought he contested better than I expected.

Great character shown when we were facing a steamroller head-on…
Personally I thought Polo looked a bit lost tonight, his numbers were ok but he doesn't look confident in disposing of the ball for mine… & I don't like seeing too many centre bounces with Polo, Jones and Ray - not my favourite set-up.
I shant complain overall though - an impressive win.

Nic Nat is a freak and I hate to think what he will be like when he grows up!!!!!!!!! I thought Roo was good, great tackling with no reward. Good team effort really.

One thing for certain, Kosi can be very dangerous......if he stays in our forward line the whole time. Don't have him run down to our back line and up again, he aint the most fit, or agile player we have. Several times we broke away through the middle and had nobody to kick to in our forward line.

You know your playing well when gram is kicking at 87% and raph at 80%

yet several times he was taking saving marks in the backline- at one point almost on the line..

i though Polo was terrific last night. and our clearance work (drew even) was outstanding considering the hit outs in Eagles favour. hats off to all clearance boys.

thought Gram was back to his best last night - that tackle he laid (ok his only one) beginning of last quarter set the scene.

Gamble kicked that incredible goal and was gifted a second. agree he gives you target on the wings - Lynch can also give you this.

Milne is a star.

Nic Nappipooy is mega. Watch out when he hardens up proper for four quarters.

Last quarter Nat's goal from the stoppage, he just strolled by Grammy. Tackling just isn't in his focus or he's not sure when to.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Find it hard that people don't rate Schneider. The umps hate him more than Milney and that's saying something and yes he is not the most consistent but the bloke just oozes class. Whenever he has it in his hands I'm confident he will use it well.

Some posters calling for Gamble to be dropped (now that he is playing well) is ridiculous!

I don't want to see Armo as the sub again next week, he's too good imo.

Well done Raph and Kosi btw

yeah whats going on there?
when i was doing the game votes in the other thread i looked up the stats from the game and changed who i was going to put where
gram had a great game, but only laid one tackle.
maybe he is told to stay out side?
peake (id say the same type of running player) only had 2 so maybe its an instruction to stay outside
although peake will chase down and tackle
cant rememberr seeing grammy do it for a while.

maybe it is a niggle?
and maybe after all that bulls*** with the courts has started and is finally under way a weight has been lifted off jasons shoulders?.
certainly was back to what we know he can do last night

I don't think we can understimate the stress the impending court case and giving evidence would have meant for gram etc

And now that has started it seemed to me evident last night that they played with less weight and stress on their minds.

Schneider in particular was back to his almost best.
