Absolute legend,never heard one person say a bad thing about him,very rare in a jealous industry.Made our club repected and earnt the respect of everyone in doing it,very sad day,an icon that cannot be replaced.RIP Yabby

Actually looking forward to hearing Ross's comments. Jeansy was a sounding board/mentor for him at times, I believe.

Alan Jeans stayed as a boarder with my mother, Pat, when he was a young man. He was just down from Finley, NSW. Her brother, Peter Clancy, was also a boarder and a good friend of 'Yabby'. They both played for the Saints. I remember a couple of times at Moorabbin and Waverley, when my mum would see 'Yabby' and wave, he would always come over and have a chat with her.

Funeral Wednesday at the MCG

I often used to see Sgt Alan Jeans wrestling in the Police gym at Russell Street Police Headquarters back in the sixties. He used to spar with a bloke, whose name I can't remember, but I was told was a world champion.
No wonder the players couldn't handle him when he wrestled them.

Funny you mention his flair for wrestling because in the story about him for the 7:30 Report this evening Barry Breen spoke of trainings how he'd wrestle with the occaisional player.

He would inevidably pin them down and say to them "have you had enough, laddy?"
