I disagree he has been found wanting, he is not setting the world on fire but he gets back down the ground and is running for team mates, one of the few by the way. the thing that will get him another year is the work off the ball he does. I still see him becoming a good player for us. Hamill was your 1 to 2 goal a game and pressure on the 50 forward. We all loved him for it, if Gamble can replicate his effort he will keep getting games. Siposs is the future and capable of one day being a gun but he was getting 5 or 6 possies in the last couple of games. He will always make the most of his outing because he can kick a goal, but Gamble will hold the spot for now because he does more even when not kicking many goals.
Surely we dont compare gamble.....to the beast that was hamill..
Hamill was borderline human on a footy field....a more intense footballer i have not seen, he was a brutal animal...who hurt opposition....
Gamble may harrass and chase around and runinto positions....but he doesnt scare, contest and tackle like sammy....opponents feared him.

No doubt.
I think the window is still slightly ajar and we can have a crack in 2012. This relies on:
* Lenny's return and to his usual form.
* At least two of the following kids: Siposs, Ledger, Cripps, Lynch and Walsh stepping up to make a contribution.
* The recruitment of one or two outside mids with skills, particularly foot skills and foot speed.
* And the recruitment of a big power forward.

Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.
I think we are already in a rebuild so where we are is about as bottom as we are going to go (fingers crossed).
Currently we have McEvoy, Armitage, Steven and Lynch added to the team.
We've introduced Cripps, Ledger, Simpkin and Siposs to the 1's and they are likely to get much more time next year.
We are likely to go for a specialist ruck/forward in trade week or there abouts.
net result would be about 8 to 9 different players, our top 8 would stay (perhaps 1 gone in the trade), our run with players are in excellent form (Jones, Dempster) leaving about 4 middle tier players that fill specific roles.
Good cross section of youth and experience.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

On Gamble, he obviously isn't at Hamill's standard yet, I am more commenting on his ability to get to the loose player and spread for team mates. He is playing a team game and getting some goals so i think he is playing the role he has earmarked for him. Mitch Robinson at the Blues is probably the closest thing to Hamill at the moment, manic attack at the ball interspersed with manic attack on the man. If Gamble got some aggression and speed he would be the ideal third tall.
