Port are conplete rubbish.
Whilst Ross would be happy with the margin we dished out to port, I reckon he'd be thinking a par return would've been 20 goals.
Consider also we only had 24 scoring shots.
Sorry if this seems harsh, but the bar for our team has been raised, and RL shouldn't accept an 8/10 job on any team.
Thoughts?

20 goals? Is that from a random number generator.
Only one team (North) has scored more than 17 goals against Port in their last five games.
Carlton and West Coast at Subiaco both scored less goals.
We got four points from the game which I believe is the maximum number you can get.

Re: 17 goals. Not good enough!
It was a good win given the conditions, which weren't conducive to high scoring. It was very windy.
Given the conditions....17 goals is a vg score
Teams aim for 16.....as a guide
But it depends on a lot of variables....mostly opposition set up and tactics...condition....accuracy....
A balance between defense and offense is tough
If we kicked 22 and they kicked 15, would that be better???
When you look at fwds....and their performance
Dont look at goals kicked..........look at f50 entries as compared to scores, and look at quality of entries.....and look at f50 tackles, and wins from stoppges inside f50....contested marks
With mids.....
Tackles between the arcs, clearances, handball recieves, disposal efficiency into f50....run and spread....fwd press....defensive running
Defenders
Spoils, 3rd man up, run tobrecieve
But mainly rebounds vs opposition scores

I think that people forget, that even when we were unbeatable in 2009, we only averaged 14 goals per week.
So if we're looking to get 'back to our best', then really, expecting 20 goals each week is unrealistic.
If we're thinking that our 2009 footy might have been good back then, but it's just not going to cut it in 2011 - then sure, we have every right to worried about only kicking 17.

Got to be happy with a nearly 10 goal win away from Melbourne.
However, for the sake of the season, it would have been highly advantageous to have kicked on in that final quarter and really run away with the game.
We're only just behind Melbourne on %, but miles behind Sydney and Essendon. That may matter come the end of the season.

How do you know what Ross Lyon thinks. Clearly you are showing your disappointment. Ask yourself when was the last time St.Kilda kicked 17 goals in a game let alone in an interstate game.saintspremiers wrote:I am not bagging them.
I gave them 8/10 FFS!!!
Just looking at who we played.
Against prob. 14 other sides 16 or 17 goals would be a great effort.
Horses for courses.
I'll take any win
Another opportunity awaits!

last time we kicked 17 goals was in round 21 last year against richmond (17.14 to 14.10), then north the week before (17.13 to 9.9), and port the week before that (23.13 to 8.9 at docklands). the last time we did it interstate was against freo in round 20 2008 (17.10 to 9.15).Moccha wrote:How do you know what Ross Lyon thinks. EASY PORT GOALS
I went to the game - it's not the 17 goals that was an issue - it was some of the sloppy play that gave PA easy goals.
Christ, some people are never happy
And why 20 goals? because thats a nice round number?
17.5 in greasy blustery conditions away from home and we get squeling.
Why not just enjoy the good win?

It would seem that Ross put the cue away in the last part of the 4th quarter and I agree.
while a 100 point thumping would have been great, the last thing you want is for roo to get a busted knee in what was a vitriolic game.
except for about 10 mins at the end of the first quarter we controlled the game, the tempo and our skills were better.
I know its port, but to win on our terms is great.
