Ruckmen USUALLY are most productive between about 24 and 28.
They have IMO the shortest effective lifespan of players.
the fact McEvoy is producing early and still getting bagged on here is embarrassing for us.

Top call DW. I think people are nuts writing off Stanley so soon. Not many 200cm players have much impact under 23 at any club in VFL/AFL history.Dan Warna wrote:Ruckmen USUALLY are most productive between about 24 and 28.

Paul Salmon aside.
Paul salmon played 80%at full forward for essendon.....for ten years or more
They had a handy number 1 ruckman
Not sure of their short time period......many ruckman played 250-350 games
One played 378.....and he was making an impact at 17.....as was big carl
Different for every player i suppose........but generally yes, due to lack of strength in ruck duels, they take 4 or so pre-seaaons
McEvoy will be a good player, as will stanley imo

Give him a few consecutive games and see what he can do. I know the argument about having to "shine" at VFL level first and games are given on merit, but if you look at the improvement in Stevens, Armitage and McEvoy, it shows what consecutive games can show.
McEvoy needs a break at times during games and playing Stanley for a few games is worthwhile. His inclusion will not compromise the team.

Stanley's problem though, from where I stand, is his attitude.Con Gorozidis wrote:Top call DW. I think people are nuts writing off Stanley so soon. I don't know him, so it's merely a view formed from watching on the sidelines, but he just doesn't seem to have that steely resolve to be elite.
He doesn't have that look in his eyes, and appears to be coasting and unsure if he belongs out there.
