Derryn Hinch vs. the Saints

Post: # 1093005Post Waltzing St Kilda »

In an incoherent rant in The Age, the Human Headline, who's already proved himself to be no friend of the Saints, claims he barracked for the Saints when he first came to Melbourne only to give them away in favour of the Demons (before giving them away as well).

http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/banish ... 1g9yd.html

His reason for turning on the Saints?

Molly Meldrum, then still known quite widely as Ian, took me to my first AFL match. St Kilda versus Essendon. It was one of the most brutal things I'd witnessed on a sporting field.

Mad Dog Muir and Ronnie Andrews went at it like heavyweight boxers. This was pre-blood rule. After seeing players being stretchered off, I asked Molly how the heck they fielded a team every week.

Next day, the Sunday paper page one headline screamed: ''ANIMALS!'' I think that's what Sheeds called his opponents. I realised I had seen one of the dirtiest games in yonks.
Just goes to show how influential Sheeds was, seeing he was playing for Richmond at the time.

That was a terrible read. His pseudo earnesty sickens me.

In all honesty, I'm happy to know that this buffoon isn't publically known as a St.Kilda supporter. I'm pretty sure if I were Dees fan it wouldn't bother me a great deal that he's no longer supporting Melbourne either.
Was back at the MCG with Ron Walker the day Jim Stynes ran across the mark and incurred the 15-yard penalty from which Buckenara scored and we missed out on the grand final
The 1987 Preliminary Final was played at Waverley (then VFL Park), not the MCG. Or did he mean he "was back at MCG" after the game and reflecting upon it with Walker :?

I think the biggest disgrace is not the article itself, but the fact The Age editorial had this published and are paying him for it.

Beat me to it. Big Jim was at Waverley....as was I.

Derryn is loose with the truth and always has been. I wouldn't believe many of those anecdotes about Barassi and Kylie Minogue either.

He also quotes 'Sheeds' as saying STK were animals.
Sheedy didn't join Essendon until 1981.

His quick acceptance of Kim Duthie as an innocent schoolgirl gives an indication of this guy's credibility. :roll:

Thanks for the history lesson Derryn. By the way, the "Animals" game was in round 7 1978. Neither Muir or Andrews played.

Was all this before or after his sexual encounter with a 15 year old girl? Remember, he has admitted to the encounter !!

Oh but that was different because he was so unaware because she seemed older, not like that evil Sammy Gilbert whom he says should be drawn and quartered for having a relationship with a 17 yo. Derryn was much more excusable because he didn't intend to carry on a relationship, just carnal pleasures.

Shock Jocks are seriously the most low form of human existence, they should all be forced to endure a celebrity big brother type of arrangement where they are locked into Kyle Sandilands house together for a decade.

I think you will find that Robbie Muir DID NOT play in that game

Ronnie Andrews DID NOT play in that game

It was their President Colin Stubbs who called us animals.....

Headline was ;

"Stubbs hits at Animals"

and this nice summary from AFL;

Moment #116: Saints no angels to baby Bombers
Essendon’s “Baby Bombersâ€

This just sums up what a knob Hinch is ....who doesn't let the facts get in the way of (his version of) a good story....

As for this:
mordi wrote:
and in the second term Carl Ditterich crashed through an attempted shepherd by Terry Cahill and flattened the Bomber rover.
....I was actually there that day....the Ditterich/Cahill incident happened very close to the boundary....right in front of where I was standing....was one of the loudest whacks I have heard on a footy field.....when it happened I thought he had killed him...very scary stuff.

That game and the 'Greening game' were two of the most spiteful games I have seen.....

I remember a few years ago The Hun found an old footy record with Derryn on the front cover wearing a saints scarf & beanie. The headline: "Supporter of the week" and published it with "we thought he was a demons supporter?" tagline. Hinch then went on to write an article about how he came to follow Melbourne after seeing Robbie Flower play. The fact he thinks Stynes ran over the mark in the '87 prelim at the MCG speaks volumes!
Whenever his name fades from the media, he becomes a crusader for populist, no-lose causes, what a tool!

That piece shows us what a hypocrite Hinch is. Loves to fabricate a story to suit his own needs.
