Lack of Flexibility in the Box?

Post: # 1091603Post Johnny Member »

I reckon Ross Lyon has to be one of the best 'forward scout' coaches in the game.

He knows what the opposition does, and has a plan to stop it.

But....

When things don't quite go to plan, he does seem to be quite slow/reluctant to switch things around.

For example...

Selwood goes off in R1 - we get rolled.

Riewoldt goes off in R2 - we nearly get rolled.

Bartel goes off tonight (when we're in front) - we find ourselves 4 goals down within 30 mins!

It may all be coinicidence, but usually when teams lose players during the game, it's a huge advantage to the opposition. But with us, it's almost a nail in our coffin when our opposition lose a key player that we've planned for.

You mean like Goddard going off at quarter time against Freo?

He coaches with an iron fist from all reports, and gives little responsibilty to hi assistants anyway.....

Looking into the box, he seems quick to point the finger though.... Hard to work with i believe...

I did say 'usually'!

Maybe you're right though. Maybe it's common for coaches to plan so heavily that when a key player goes off it actually throws the opposition team off balance.

I've just noticed it with us, that we plan so well that perhaps it's ironically a disadavantage when an opposition player goes off early.

We'll see tonight though I guess!

Well someone should point the finger at him.
For starters he shouldnt have played an injured Monty ahead of Ledger.

For seconds has he learnt in the last 5 years that tha Cats will 3 time Rieworldt and not to just kick to him?

Oh and we cant kick at all anyway.

Na guys. I made this comment last season or so, and everyone called me out on it. Oh, he's taken us to grand finals in 2 years. Just remember that. He's a top coach. Never made a mistake. Ever.

He wasn't in the box for the last quarter, busy writing note for the kiddies on the whiteboard.

Indeed you did... in fact he is well and truly living up to your description of him as a "One Trick pony"

He got the matchups right.

It was 1st playing 10th for a reason.

I thought it was a contest, and skill errors and turnovers cost dearly.

I would point the finger if it needed to be, but I thought the whiteboard work was perfectly fine.

My eyebrows only raise with the persistence of Riewoldt forward, but he is our gun forward, and ultimately you have to back him in.

How long for, well I'm glad it's not my decision.
