The funny thing is that most teams are doing that this season. The frees have dried up for Rooey this year, he must have been featured in the afl umpires video this season. he gets pushed in the back when going for marks tangled and blacked but no frees.

I loom at all those photos and all I hear is

PLAY ON....

Been a bit that way this year...

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

I tend to agree. I remember last year the endless outcry about riewoldt receiving so many free kicks.

When a lot of the time, he would simply lead hard and get his arms chopped for obvious free kicks that opposition supporters hate.

Too many of his opponents had to cheat the rules to beat him, ie arm chop or tunnel.

And now the umpires side with the defenders more often than not this year when it comes to opponents cheating on riewoldt.

And it'll be a safe bet that the Geelong fans and Roo-haters will walk away saying that he was staging for free kicks all night

That great player Harry 'The Puncher" Taylor!

All he can do is punch the ball.

First he was a super-hero because he beat Riewoldt in a Grand Final with a broken hand.

Then he was a hero because...well....his hand wasn't actually broken, just sore from punching the ball, chopping arms, punching heads etc.

Then he was an ok player because we found Nick played that game with a torn muscle in his leg.

Each piece of truth that came out diminished the legend!

I know what you'll all say: 'Yeah but 'e's got a flag, maaaaeeeete!'
All the more reason to hate that dreadful Cats team.

In truth, it is somewhat self inflicted. Hopefully the boys know we have one of (if not THE) best goalsneak in the game hanging around in Milne, as well as Schneids, Beej, Steven and Gamble who can all pop up

hoping as much as anyone Gilbo has a change of fortunes

The best tactic against the Cats defence is still to boot it long to the square.
Scarlett and Milburn hate trying to get to a pack to spoil. It unnerves them.
Obviously we can't do this all game but it worked for the Suns in the first half the other week.

There is only one photo that I can see where Roo poss deserves a free - the first photo. The others he is being double/triple/quadruple teamed, but the cats players aren't infringing. Let's face it, if the cats went to J-Pod as often as we went to Roo I would expect photos of Gwilt, Fish, Gilbo and Zac smashing him also.

Thee photos really tell a story of 2 things:

1. We need an alternate target inside 50.
2. Mids need to be smarter when kicking inside 50 to take the best option. Not just kick to Roo.

I think Roo should just play outside the 50m arc. Think how much space we will have with all geelongs defenders on a flank

I agree bob. Further up the ground is probably the answer. Just have to look at the freo game with all the midfielders running back in the 50.. plenty of space.

No excuses, Roo needs to win the one-on-one contested marking duels...not doing as good as he should.

as scarlett said earlier this season, reiwoldt is the number one player in the league. there is nothing physically wrong with him, but we can all see he lacks potency this season. I see the geelong game as very winnable. The great thing is if our other forwards start to pose a threat, the focus shifts and Nick hopefully can find his way back (without a persistent quintet of taggers). I truly beleive that's all it takes, a moemt of inspiration to remind a person of their brilliance. Good luck saints.

I concur, where are the saints fanning off him is the first question, and the second question is why isn't midfield kicking to other players.

He is an outstanding player, but we don't want to fall into 'lockett syndrome'

Is there a forward line in the AFL worse than St Kildas

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Great post, happened again all night. He had to bust his arse to get free. we are either to unfit (our players arn't able to get forward quick enough to help out) or poorly coached.

RL's game plan has killed Riewoldt !

Post: # 1091805Post WinnersOnly »

RL's game plan has killed Riewoldt !

He has left him up forward competing against 2,3 and sometimes 4 opponents with no support for far too long. The poor bastard has just been worn down after 2 seasons of being swamped and has basically lost his mojo!

RL and his defensive set ups have finally cruelled our only key forward. Well done RL you ignorant spanker ! KOSI and GAMBLE are not the answer play someone who can give ROO some support eg Walsh Johnson Archer Stanley Lynch.

There was a massive armchop from Taylor in the 1st or 2nd quarter.

No free kick of course.
