Johnson may be tallish but he hardly plays like a tall forward. He is a running player who happens to be reasonably tall. If Kosi struggled today I ecpect Walsh to come in as a pinch hitter forward and ruck. A bit tough on him though as he is really neither of these.Con Gorozidis wrote:interesting. walsh and johnson now potential tall fwds....
how did smith, lynch, polo, winmar, stanley go?

Zebraman was busy in the scoreboard. Saitbrat was busy chatting up some good looking rooster during the last Q !!borderbarry wrote:Whats happened to Zebraman? And the others that used to report on Sandy games including Saintbrat.

kosi was off from the 10-14 minute mark of the 2nd Q and 11-15 minute mark of the 3rd Q. He spent the rest of the time on the ground alternating between Ruck & Full Forward. Competed OK, presented well & kicked a nice goal. For mine, didn't do enough to get back in the seniors next week. As strange as it sounds, the next 2-3 weeks at VFL level could be career (AFL Level) defining for Kosi !!saintbrat wrote:http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/k ... 1fyc8.html
Sandringham confirmed yesterday that the plan was to play Koschitzke on limited game time throughout four quarters against the Bendigo Bombers today at Trevor Barker Beach Oval. But the club said he will be ''closely monitored''.

WJ really turned it on in the last quarter.
Thought Walsh did pretty good in the ruck actually - big smile with that running 50 meter goal! (as well as one from set shot at 50m - and nearly kicking one from set shot inside the centre square, got a great kick). Looking the goods nowadays.
Can't help but admire the Polo endeavour, and thought Winmar was excellent.
Lynch now back in contention for sure.
Reckon Kosi needs a few weeks in the VFL to get his mojo back.

Rob Eddy copped a heavy whack on the nose early in the 2nd. Came off under the blood rule. Back on soon after. Still butchers the ball occasionally !!saintslegendLH wrote:was eddy playing hbf or mid? seems to be getting in the bests consistently.MCG-Unit wrote:Johnson's 3rd after some good work in tight and a nice kick from Smith

Not sure, but the guys on BF who were apparently there, said that Walsh, Lynch, Johnson and Ferguson were v good. Smith last quarter....
Most who see Ferguson play are impressed
Maybe injuries to Walsh and Eddy

Enjoyable day at Sandy.
But the goalkicking was woeful.
(Apart from The Tomminator dobbing a MONSTER from 60m out).
Essendon on the other hand were deadly accurate.
Kosi had very little influence.
Winmar just OK.
Tommy Lynch had a good game.
Walsh did OK in the ruck.
Polo tried hard.
Sippos pretty quiet but occasionally bobs up and does something classy - just wish he would have more shots at goal instead of handballing to guys in no better position.
Walsh was limping badly in the last but came back on - so probably just a corky.

Not strange at all.........honestly have thought that Kosi and his body have not/are not capable of playing at the afl level anymore....Eastern wrote:kosi was off from the 10-14 minute mark of the 2nd Q and 11-15 minute mark of the 3rd Q. Crocker !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually spent most of the game chatting..old friends in odd places. young saints are friendly Including Stanley who has a slight injury
players numbers all varied again.. Eddy normall weares his 40 but was in 77
But big last quarters By Walsh and Johnson
Crocker consistent all game- but so slight..
kosi definitely played more than expected BUT was still on in the last quarter. Agree Winmar good, so no major injuries
if Sandy had kicked straight they would have had 27 goals - just couldn't get them to slot...
the fog cleared http://yfrog.com/h2aemfoj
I followed the sun down
good crowd- good for Sandy coffers again.
coaching and fitness staff in attendance.

i think you're right. he was completely mismanaged under thomas. out of service we should carry him to the end of his contract and let him play his years out in the vfl. he's been really good for us and his been through so much crap.chook23 wrote:Not strange at all.........honestly have thought that Kosi and his body have not/are not capable of playing at the afl level anymore....Eastern wrote:kosi was off from the 10-14 minute mark of the 2nd Q and 11-15 minute mark of the 3rd Q. I'd ( so my opinion and not based on any coaching background) like to see Will consolidate some form- he may be the extra forward we need- same with Walshy- Lynch was solid.Stillwaiting wrote:So Saintbrat, who do you think maybe next in of the young blokes , or whoay be in next week. How far awaydo you think Crocker is.
Sam Crocker just keeps burrowing in and ( to me) has a great kick- but he would get knocked of the ball so easily as he is very slight.
Heyne coming back from iinjury, Cahill still returning from injury
Both sandy seniors and reserves have Bye's next week and the saints have the bye the week after so for some players it may be 3-4 weeks before any move to Saints is possible.

Saw the last half today - these were my observations
Kosi - looked to play the full 2nd half sharing between ruck and forward. Rucked fairly with some ok tap work against Bellchambers who has plenty of size. Took a strong mark in last that lead to a goal but was never a standout.
Walsh - continues to impress. played forward & kicked a long bomb in the 3rd from outside 50 and then when into ruck and competed well. Made the tap then got his own clearance. Can jump ok but around ground dosent have the size to match it. Makes up for that with his competitiveness. some small doubts on intense decision making but must be very close to senior selection based on ability to go back/forward and cut time as 2nd ruck.
Crocker - shows promise with a booming left boot and quick hands. Dosen't dodge a contest. So very slight though, just needs to be locked away in the weight room for 3 odd months. 2012 prospect.
Will Johnson - played a great final quarter and stood up with some strong goals. His best was a handball receive, taking 2 bounces and unloading from 50 on the angle. Took some strong contested marks as well too. Obvious big upside as a tall forward with some pace.
McQualter - had a great final term and set up some goals with good ballwork and pinpoint passes.
Winmar - played 2nd half on Williams at half back. Looked sharp under pressure and some good gives. Must say his work under pressure was showing me that senior selection isnt too far away.
Archer - playing CHB, a few good spoils but under pressure with amount of ball coming in so easily in 3rd quarter,
Polo - tried successfully to get under Reimers skin (not that thats very difficult) Tried hard and kicking wasn't too bad...for this grade.
Sipposs - he just shines out when he has the ball. Looks composed and loves to take a shot. Did have poor decision making early in 3rd when gave to a flat footed Kosi who was pinged for HTB. Also just needs to keep giving a contest all the time. Suspect a full preseason with weights and aerobically will be a blessing.
Lynch - played HB on Jay Neagle. Looked better in the final quarter and started to control rebounding balls around the middle. Jury is still out on his disposal i tend to think. Also on the rebound im not sure he is a natural defender, seemed to lose a forward too easily. Did play well overall.
Ferguson - i tended to watch other players but noticed him named in back pocket. Looks a great size and can move so plenty of upside.
Heyne - had his share of bench time and went to the wing. Probably just needs to play some consistent footy as he comes and goes in the game. Took a strong mark, likes to play on and feel he takes the game on but in the last got nabbed for holding on in a 1 on 1 and feel he needs that defensive side of his game to take it to the next level.
Al Smith - I didnt take too much attention but did see him involved in a goal chain in the final quarter. At 3/4 think Sandy were down by 27 in contested ball so mids were under pressure.
Summary - i put Crocker in my black book for 2012 and as much as he would ordinarily be in the mix for a senior gig, I'd say his size is no where near AFL. I left thinking about a comparison between 2 likely players - Tommy Walsh & Will Johnson. Both probably being groomed as forwards, both strong marking options, WJ probably a pack marker, Tommy good on the lead up. Both long kicks. Tommys knock maybe tight decision making. Tommy has the ability to play 2nd ruck. Both are "types" we need at present. Close call IMO!
Lynch keeps putting his hand up, it maybe he has to get back to senior football to take his game to the next level. He misses some kicks, dosen't get back fast enough, but not sure as a 1st rounder if he progresses a lot more at this level.
