Ledger returning from injury and would I expect need to build up to speed-saint58 wrote:Tom Ledger,Alister Smith,Sam crocker all young guys with pace who have been named in the best for sandy last couple of weeks. Smith not playing at all this weekend? so maybe a niggle
Crocker was carrying some form of soreness last saturday after training and isn't playing this week....
so sustained fitness and health will no doubt see them considered.

This is probably not a huge story outside of our club but I really hope we get to read a bit about it somewhere, even if it's only on the Saints website.
Haven't heard a great deal from Tommy since he first arrived and would love to hear his thoughts on how he thinks he's going and what he thinks of the senior list elevation.

Didn't happen last year, and he's still a long way off this year.Dr Spaceman wrote:Nah, don't have to.Maxstar22 wrote:Just a question....when you have a player on the LTI list, do you have to upgrade a rookie or is it more of a safeguard type thing?
Either way, good news for the big Irishman.
Tommy's elevation strongly suggests they intend to play him in the near future :)

You obviously watch a fair bit of Sandy Bernard and as such I respect your opinion regarding Tommy's development.Bernard Shakey wrote:Didn't happen last year, and he's still a long way off this year.Dr Spaceman wrote:Nah, don't have to.Maxstar22 wrote:Just a question....when you have a player on the LTI list, do you have to upgrade a rookie or is it more of a safeguard type thing?

However Ross has come out in the last week and basically said Walsh will play this year, and today's upgrade adds weight to that.
I think it's very important for both parties that they get a better idea of where this experiment is heading. Â And with the finals all but gone, there is not a great deal to lose in giving him a crack.

i disagree in relation to kossi...the first grand final last year turned around in our favour after gardy got injured and kossi went into the ruck...that was 10 games ago.....

Why do people bag Eddy so much? Did he lose us a premiership with broken bones? He has played about 25 career games and should be ready to start his best footy. You people are dead set f%$# wits, I feel sorry for Tommy he is going to get bagged when he makes mistakes and becomes our Setanta, a cheap shot victim for idiot fans. Seriously all our young guys should leave now and get the f*** out of here.

A possible reason for delaying the elevation after Lenny's injury may have been to decide if Eddy was going to get it. He's been injured (?) I think so he's been a little unlucky so far this year.
And with regards to Kosi in the first grand final my view is that we may well have won that game if Gard's wasn't injured!

Not really about his promotion but great interview from the Irish Examiner.
http://www.examiner.ie/sport/gaa/eager- ... 49372.html
http://www.examiner.ie/sport/gaa/eager- ... 49372.html
"The biggest eye-opener the whole off-season and pre-season was the whole media side of things. It was just crazy," he tells the Irish Examiner.
"Back home it is...well, whatever, but here in Melbourne, if you go out for a pint, there’s a good chance it’s going to be in the paper the next day. The invasion of people’s personal lives is just crazy, it takes a hell of a lot of getting used to.
"When you’re signing that contract to become a professional, in one sense you are signing away your privacy a wee bit but it was still crazy to get used to. Apparently in Melbourne, there are more journalists covering the AFL than there are players in the league. I don’t know how true that is but there are times when it seems to be, and they (the footy media) are always trying to find something."
And after all, being a professional is exactly why Walsh made that critical call back in 2009, fresh from having an All-Ireland winners’ medal draped around his neck, to turn his back on the Kingdom, his family and home in Tralee.
And having spent his first 12 months getting to grips with the alien shapes of ball, playing field and man-mountain opponents, he now feels ready to make his mark.
"I’m looking forward to this year a lot more, purely because I have a better understanding of it all. I know what to do, I know my role, I know my place in the team and in the club, I just feel like I fit in with everything over here a lot more," says Walsh.

The 23-year-old, who moved Down Under in 2009, has been named as one of three emergency players for the Saints’ trip to Fremantle on Saturday afternoon.
Although Walsh will need one of his team-mates to drop out of the panel in order for him to be promoted to the matchday squad, the speed of his elevation to senior status is an encouraging sign of the progress which he has made so far in his first full season with the club.
