How is your memory? Not good obviously. We got Hamill for Daryl. A good move with most people who understand the game. Sziller was finished when he left, Healy was never good enough to be a regular and the Gowens brothers were good seconds player. So after bagging the club for losing 6, the only bas loss was Shane and the club were told by medicos that he may struggle to play again. I couldn't see a future for ball at the saints. He was slow nd couldn't kick over a jam tin.
I was very critical of him in those last few years at the saints, only to be shouted down mercilessly by other supports claiming how loyal he was, how he bleeds red whit and black.
He is playing in an elite collingwood outfit with arguably the best midfield in the league. Certainly masks his terrible weaknesses well.
What if he had gone to Melbourne or some other basket case team (that statement will probably bite me In the ass when they thrash us this weekend) ?
We wouldnt care.

Did his role involve locking women in car boots?Spinner wrote:Lol if you tried watching some non stkilda easendon games BM you might have rated Lovett. Came off a super year for a player in his role.
Passing on Cousins and taking Lovett (at 16!) was monumental. And that's not hindsight.
If they had taken or left both I could understand and accept that.
Big Mart I like the way you are able to see beyond the emotional footy supporter crap and see the Ball situation for what it was.
A great big mistake.
We can only hope Ross has learned from his error in not rating quality people around a football club.

What a simplistic view this is.spert wrote:Ball's gone- get over it.
I think it is quite a pertinent discussion at the moment.
Our team has a severe decifiency in clearances and we let one of the best in the business go for nothing.
"Get over it" screams short attention span. Why read a book when you can just read 160 character Twitter posts?
We got lucky last year and didn't have any mids go down.
I dont believe we would have got anywhere near a flag if Lenny had done his knee in 2010. Especially when the next cabs off the rank have been Armitage, Geary, Peake for the last couple of years.
There is a grand canyon between our first picked mids and the rest.

I do love a Luke Ball thread. They just get better every time. Always such refreshing new ideas.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Well get over it anyway.
There were two possible outcomes.
Nothing for Ball.
Pick 30 for Ball.
Either way he still wouldn't be here. And it's fantasy thinking pick 30 would be contributing to anything other than vfl at the moment.
Either way 2011, we still struggle for clearances.

Pick 30 for Ball.
Luke Ball and his management made that impossible.
He walked out on St Kilda.
Some may say it was a reasonable decision on his part, but the facts remain that he walked out.
He was offered a new contract and decided not to accept it and leave.
The contract he was offered (1 million dollars over 3 years) showed how much St Kilda valued him.
Or how silly we were considering he was dropped again just after we offerred it to him.Mr Magic wrote:No, in reality it wasn't an option.Saints43 wrote:So seeing Ball as a valuable contributor and keeping him at the club wasn't an option? Barrett let out yesterday or this morning that Thomas and Pendelbury can thank Ball- because he is going from $475,000 per year to around $100,000 next year meaning there is room for them..Mr Magic wrote:No, in reality it wasn't an option.Saints43 wrote:So seeing Ball as a valuable contributor and keeping him at the club wasn't an option? Clearly we valued him less than Collingwood was prepared to value him at.
Well it seems to me over 3 years they valued him the same. Anyway money had 10% to do with it. Game time was 90%.Mr Magic wrote:Actually I believe it was offered to him prior to being dropped/rested the first time (after the Geelong game.plugger66 wrote:Or how silly we were considering he was dropped again just after we offerred it to him.Mr Magic wrote:No, in reality it wasn't an option.Saints43 wrote:So seeing Ball as a valuable contributor and keeping him at the club wasn't an option? So I assume you are now agreeing with me that Ball made the decision to leave St Kilda?plugger66 wrote:Well it seems to me over 3 years they valued him the same. Anyway money had 10% to do with it.
