I was providing the stats because someone made reference to them.Bernard Shakey wrote: Well that's it then the stats say whatever you said or whatever you want them to say. I tend to go by what I see, and I see no future in Kosi.
Ben has obviously been rested. By the way I think Melbourne will win by three goals.

got that ALMOST right...
A would be stats man was more than a little upset after our rucks got towelled up by Steven King & Brad Ottens one day. This alleged person appeared to be even more upset with Grant Thomas' percieved attitude towards ruckmen. This alleged person then produced and copied many copies of what were "HIS" stats on HIT-OUTS TO ADVANTAGE and went to the MCG the next week armed with these documents.
His first effort at getting these documents to the then StKilda coach was to post them all over the coaches box prior to the game. This he did to the coaches box in the Southern Stand. The only problem with this is that the coach couldn't read them from the coaches box on the other side of the ground.
Our "stats man" wasn't going to give up that easily. He then approached some of the coaching staff who were just inside the fence watching the players warm up. Mick McGuane even appeared to engage in a brief conversation with this person. Boyed by this our "stats man" then approached the head coach, Grant Thomas. The one-way conversation that was then had involved Grant muttering two words that suggested our "stats man" involve himself in a bit of sex & travel.
I find it a bit co-incedental that we are playing Melbourne this week. We played Melbourne that day too !!
That is f****** brilliant..! Great work B4E. Go f*** yourself Grant.
Please dont use those stats. They are unoffical. May as well use mine. Hutchinson's comments sound to me like McEvoy was dropped. Fair enough: whenever I've been paying attention McEvoy has looked less effective in the ruck than Blake and no more effective than Kosi.
I don't dispute plugger66's stats showing that, on paper, McEvoy has looked more effective. But, on the field, neither he nor Kosi have provided as much of a contest to the opposing ruckman as has Blake. And the opposition mids have consequently had a field day. And McEvoy has therefore been dropped.
That's how it looks to me. It's a major worry and makes me wonder again why we delisted Patterson.

That, to me, can refer to physical struggle or form struggle. Gram doesn't win too much hard ball.
So it sends the right message.

In reference to Gram getting "hard balls", how many "hard balls" do Milne, Dempster and Dawson get?
They are all sweaters who stand on the outside of packs waiting for the easy disposal - plus they provide no run and carry when they get the pill given to them.
In terms of contribution to to team, I would have Gram (and Clarke and Koschitzke) in before any of those 3 every day of the week.
Milne may be dangerous if he snags a disposal close to goal, but up the field contributing to the rotations all players of his size (and experience) need to contribute to these days he is an absolute waste of space.
Dawson stands at the back of packs waiting for the "give" and then gets caught because he only has one side.
Dempster brings nothing.
ditto Baker - except evening up for Cripps in an illegal manner.
Blake also has no offensive side to his game because he has no leg speed and ordinary disposal skills when he does get it - hence the sideways chips.

The question is then, how the hell did we make a GF last year with all these guys playing! To the top wrote:In reference to Gram getting "hard balls", how many "hard balls" do Milne, Dempster and Dawson get?

All quite similar actually. Milne tops those four, winning 40 contested possessions this season (10th at the club). But seeing as Dawson has missed a match, let's go by averages. Dawson averages 6 per match, Mile 5.7, Dempster 5 and Gram 5.To the top wrote:In reference to Gram getting "hard balls", how many "hard balls" do Milne, Dempster and Dawson get?
In comparison to total possessions (both contested and uncontested), 48% of Dawson's possessions are contested. 40.2% of Dempster's are contested. 39.6% of Milne's are contested. And rounding out the four you mentioned is Gram, with 23.3% of his possessions won in a contest, the fourth lowest at the club.
Gram also leads the club this season for Handball Receives. Coupled with his low contested possession rate, is that not standing on the outside of a pack waiting for the easy disposal? To the top wrote:They are all sweaters who stand on the outside of packs waiting for the easy disposal - plus they provide no run and carry when they get the pill given to them.

Dempster has probably been one of our better players this year.. He is what he is and whilst he doesn't always add a whole lot offensively I'd say he's beaten his direct opponent more often than not this year.
Milne was quiet last week but the way our midfield went what fwd wasnt after qtr time....? he's still our 2nd fwd and the only other player we can goto after Roo.
The problem starts when you have too many other players like this. Unfortunatley we have a stack like him in Bakes, Blake, Dawson, McQ etc..
Gram on the otherhand can be fantastic or a liability. he picks and chooses when he goes at a contest and his disposal is erratic. He needs to decide if footy is what he wants to do and show it if he does.

They are bad comparisons to Gram. Milne is a goal scoring small forward with good disposal skills. Dempster and Dawson are both primarily defensive players who have the ability to limit the game of their opponent. To the top wrote:In reference to Gram getting "hard balls", how many "hard balls" do Milne, Dempster and Dawson get?

They all have other strings to their Bow unlike Gram who does not have a defensive side at all. The other problem Gram has is that he seems to have lost a yard or two of pace. So where as he used to be one of our few guys who could actually break the lines he no longer seems to be able to do it.
They also all get slightly more contested possessions than Gram. When Gram turns it on he is a very good player but still extremely outside and erratic with his disposal. However, the last truly fine game he had was the 2009 GF.
