I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.stinger wrote:ralphsmith wrote:2...... Clearances......

They could be structuring up exactly where they are supposed to, and being told by the ruckman that he is going to a certain set play.
I can only go by what is reflected in the omissions and selections, it doesn't seem to point towards the mids.

If I was a mid, I wouldn't take much notice of where Kosi said it was going to go, I'd be watching the opposition ruckman.SainterK wrote:I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.stinger wrote:ralphsmith wrote:2...... Clearances......

We've been losing in the ruck for a couple of years now, so I don't think the mids have been taking much notice of our ruckmen. Lenny's not there anymore and he makes a mighty difference.SainterK wrote:That explains the year so far how?Bernard Shakey wrote:If I was a mid, I wouldn't take much notice of where Kosi said it was going to go, I'd be watching the opposition ruckman.SainterK wrote:I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.stinger wrote:ralphsmith wrote:2...... dreadful.
embarrassing.
Hayes must be shaking his head.
Do we truly, solely rely on a 31yr old to be competitive out of the middle?
Actually going off the fact that the same 31yr old (with Goddard) was the only players responsible for dragging us back to a draw in GF1 ....why am I surprised??

i see, but it still cant be correct, if there has been 75 centre clearances when (one of??) bj, dal or joey in the centre and (stkilda??) has won only 2 of those (or these players??). Surely it is these players have won a clearance, but i still find that very hard to believe.SainterK wrote:CBC, I believe is different to overall clearances. They may of won those elsewhere than the centre circle.SaintSimmo wrote:that stat can not possibly be right, dal and goddard had 9 clearances in the hawks game alone.

I agree with saint simmo - whilst our clearance work at the centre bounces has been appalling, it certainly hasn't been that bad. I recall Joey had at least 2 clearances himself against Carlton.SaintSimmo wrote:i see, but it still cant be correct, if there has been 75 centre clearances when (one of??) bj, dal or joey in the centre and (stkilda??) has won only 2 of those (or these players??). SEN quoted a stat last night that Goddard had been involved in 67 centre contests this season and has been credited with winning 1.
One clearance in 67 attempts.
I say that again.....one. He has won the ball once in the centre.
Once.
That's intent not ability. That's mental not physical. He simply does not want the hard ball at the moment.
Read this BJ and prove me wrong tomorrow.

what does that mean? like standing on an x like on a white board?
what utter nonsense. clearances are about 3 things:
1. reading the play
2. willingness to compete
3. strength speed and handling skills
i dont think its about 'structuring up" - like if u stand in the right spot on a space of 16msq the ball will just come to you?
im pretty sure if it was "structuring up" they would have come up with the right formula in 100 years of footy when we are only talking about 16m sq. how can u possibly give the benfit of the doubt on that?

Are there really still people out there who don't get that clearances are about "structuring up"? Yes, structuring up is the stuff dictated by X's and O's on the whiteboard. This isn't some internet theory, this is what every AFL coach has been preaching for most of the last decade.Con Gorozidis wrote:'structuring up like they are supposed to"SainterK wrote:I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.

All of the 3 criteria listed above are still necessary, but this isn't the under-12s, this is AFL. Everyone on the ground has those attributes to the 99th percentile, and any edge you can get is sought.

I can just see McEvoy telling goddard and NDS & Montagna how to set up center plays...
