I thought Bakes actually got done for a strike, when he hit the hand! Not the 'contact with an injured player' thing.Mr Magic wrote:Why are you surprized?Johnny Member wrote:That is extraordinary.stkildathunda wrote:Kosi looks like he is lucky that he isnt smart and hit his good shoulder"Other Incidents Assessed:
Contact between St Kilda’s Justin Koschitzke and Carlton’s Ed Curnow from the first quarter of Monday’s match was assessed. The panel said that no contact was made by Koschitzke to the shoulder region that Curnow had previously damaged during the quarter. No further action was taken."
So the rule includes an 'injured' player, deemed fit enough by his club doctors to come back on? So if Kosi did hit his shoulder, regardless of the fact his club declared him fit enough to return to the field - Kosi would have got weeks??
Come on.
Isn't that exactly what Baker got for doing to Johnson who was sent back onto the field last year?

So as the rule now stands (and is apparently being interpreted by the MRP) if a player comes into a game with an injured shoulder, or injures his shoulder during the game, an opposition player isn't allowed to tackle him or bump him on that shoulder in any circumstance?stkildathunda wrote:Spot on.. It comes back to the Baker incident last year even though Stevie J actually came into the game "injured" he coped a week for hitting his "injured" hand...Mr Magic wrote:Why are you surprized?Johnny Member wrote:That is extraordinary.stkildathunda wrote:Kosi looks like he is lucky that he isnt smart and hit his good shoulder"Other Incidents Assessed:

Given that Curnow was sent back onto the field we may have witnessed the farce of him being able to play without any fear of being bumped on 1 side of his body or tackled anywhere near that shoulder without the opposition player being cited for an offence?
(I can think of a number of occasions during a game when a bump/shepherd would normally be applied by an opposition player on 'a Curnow')
And if 'a Curnow' plays next game, does his 'injured shoulder' remain 'injured' for the duration of the game?
When does his 'injured shoulder' become 'uninjured'?
What 'injuries' carried into games orreceived during games are not allowed to be 'touched'?
If somebody receives a corky to the hip does that mean that nobody is now allowed to bump or tackle him anywhere near that hip during that game?

I'm pretty sure the offence was knowingly striking an opponent's injury?Johnny Member wrote:I thought Bakes actually got done for a strike, when he hit the hand! Sorry bud, just keeping the arguments consistant with this forum!Ajer wrote:Two totally different scenarios. This just in from AFL.com.......fingers wrote:Interesting tweet from Bakes

"Steven Baker of St Kilda has been charged with minsconduct in that he unreasonably or unnecessarily tweeted derogatory comments regarding the sport. The tweeting was deemed to be intentional conduct, bringing 7 activation points, or a Level 14 offence.
His existing poor record means an additional 25% points loading lifts the charge to a level 16 offence, drawing 3400 demerit points, or 34 weeks suspension.
He can accept a 33 week suspension with an early plea....."

What if a team mate fires off a handball and the injured player takes possession and just throws it on the boot?? Could he or could he not be bumped or tackled whilst attempting to kick??Mr Magic wrote:So as the rule now stands (and is apparently being interpreted by the MRP) if a player comes into a game with an injured shoulder, or injures his shoulder during the game, an opposition player isn't allowed to tackle him or bump him on that shoulder in any circumstance?stkildathunda wrote:Spot on.. I have nearly had a enough of our soft c**k club and the morons running it...
When melbourne start showing bigger balls, you know your f....ked
When was the lAst tome we fought a decisoon and won.....let alone a ridiculous one...
And some context...
A 115kg mal michael and two scott idiots continually bumping into someone holding their arm against a 75kg leigh montagna bumping a bent over curow once is a little different....
Hpw many weeks for Michael??
If player is on the field of play and not in the handa of the trainers he is fair game, within the rules....
I remember rick mccpsker facing andy roberts first ball after Coming in with a broken jaw from roberts....what did Roberts bowl???
Was it in the 'spirit' of the game.......yes....
Its what makes our game require courage, the fact that a persons toughness can be sought out.

Why are you bringing up something that is irrelevant. The rules have changed since then. And Melbourne challenged and will probably lose an extra week. What does that prove, they have bigger balls or are stupid? An why would Joey apologize if he thought there was totally nothing in it and why didnt Rl say he was not guilty when on TV last night?BigMart wrote:I have nearly had a enough of our soft c**k club and the morons running it...

The Saints did exactly as they should have. Copped the week instead of losing him for 2.

...and on the insiders last night scott was highly critical of joey...said it wasn't in the spirit of the game........now i can never remember which of the krahe brothers was which....but one threw lenny into a fence the other bashed up on a very injured roo.....talk about hypocritical.....
and i like the guy as a footy commentator...
.everybody still loves lenny....and we always will

Ridiculous cooked up charge for a non-crime. Sentence imposed only to appease the marketing tail that has slowly taken to wagging the Great Dane.plugger66 wrote:Why are you bringing up something that is irrelevant. Are players now expected to take heed of knee/shoulder/quad/elbow strapping on opponents when they take to the field from here on end?
Colour it anyway you want, this 'decision', like the Trengove tackle sentence, is absolute stinking piffle and simply serves to rationalise an argument that the present day judiciary system whether by design or as it's evolved is no more than a front for AFL brand protectionism instead of an arbitrator of the laws of the game.
In the end Montagna had no choice but to 'accept' the ban. St Kilda, like most of the other clubs, have been brow-beaten into submission.
Hopefully his calf's better for the rest.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
Could he determine the extent of the injury.....if so, and the injury was serious....why did a qualified doctor put him back on the ground.....surely he felt his injury was not too bad
Apology was instructed to protect the clubs brand.....otherwise mums wont let their little boys play footy....and demetriou want every kid in the known world to only play afl.....every other sport is the enemy

I doubt he could see the extent of the injury but I reckon he knew he was hurt. Also how do you know the club told him to say sorry. Is there a link or do you know someone at the club?BigMart wrote:Could he determine the extent of the injury.....if so, and the injury was serious....why did a qualified doctor put him back on the ground.....surely he felt his injury was not too bad

Can I ask you why Joey even needed to take the risk knowing what the rule is. What was the point?
