How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?
Re: Whats all this BS
don't worry mate...just goes to show that some very frequent and loud posters on here don't really have a clue about football or young footballers....and...you can't educate ignorant pple.....saintslegendLH wrote:so archer and lynch can't play afl football, after one game each??, yeah great work joffa...... most exciting emergancies some might say is because all three of them are dangerous, classy, runners who are playing well in the vfl and have a alot of potentialjoffaboy wrote:About the emergencies?
Fair dinkum, some of the comment I've read are ridiculous. "The most exciting since 2001" - FFS gve me a break
Apart from a small group of people, nobody has seen them play. Just because they are young doesn't mean they are any good.
Geary
Eddy
Stanley
Archer
Lynch
have all proved not to be up to AFL standard, but some people go moist because young ones are getting a go.
It smacks of desperation.
I am not saying these players cant play (and at least three of the above could still make it in the AFl), I wouldn't know, but the expectation is too way way too high.
A bit of perspective please

Fact of the matter is that Sippos & Cripps are really not that far away from thier first game. Sandringham form is undeniable when you have passengers in the senior 22.meher baba wrote:JB, I'm with you 150%.
I strongly suspect Cripps, Winmar, Ledger, Siposs, etc. are a way off AFL and I would be disturbed if any of them were to play at a critical part of the season when we remain a reasonable chance of making the finals.
Johnson making his debut is enough excitement for me. On the basis of his NAB Cup form he looks like a player. Good luck young feller.
The Cult of the young player we have never actually seen" is just as silly as the Cult of trade week ("my favourite week of the season" as one misguided onetime regular on here used to put it).
At least we don't hear so much about trade week any more: The Lovett saga put paid to that!
Whether they can stand up to the senior level is another thing.
I would expect Ledger to be right behind them. If the seniors continue to struggle then they will all be banging down the door.
A couple of these guys will be players. Most definitely.

But when you get someone who presents, and can kick for goal, that is regularly getting possessions in the two's.....
With our, and lets be honest dysfunctional forward line Sippos is a real chance to get a senior gig in the first half of this season.
The guy is a great set shot.
If he was pulling a dozen possessions and a couple of shots at goal in the seniors he would be a freaking godsend.
He needs work on his defensive side, but if he keeps progressing, it will be hard to hold him back.
It's good to see Will get rewarded. Without getting carried away, a ten possession game, with a goal or two and decent efficiency should really see him hold his spot. His form for Sandringham demanded senior selection.
Sandringham really looks to have a decent year ahead. A lot of our listed players are doing well.

I was really only excited about Goddard out of all of those.Johnny Member wrote:I wasn't more excited about Joey, Fisher and BJ than Roo, Kosi and Dal at the same stage our current Emergencies are at!!
Seeing goddards first few games you could see something incredibly potent. But for years, he really didn't seem to have a position? Hard to describe.
Well, that all changed.
Riewoldt didn't have immediatley visible elite skills. But over time his gigantic heart and willpower became evident. Titanic...
I haven't seen any of these young guys play but I hope to see some glimpses of what these senior guys showed when they were younger.

The percentages of players making it to 100 games from outside of the top 10 in the draft makes you think that luck and quick development is the only way you get anywhere in the AFL. Johnson is like M.Barlow, he didn't get given his dream on a platter and knows that in his 20s he is at the mercy of a cruel system that eats you up if you don't perform. That is why mature age recruits often burst onto the scene. Stanley is IMO in the I'm a star phase, girls, parties adulation and you don't even need to work for it. He will either get to the point where the penny drops or he will be working in the dispatch warehouse at Kmart in 10 years time telling stories of his AFL days to people who don't remember him. Still Dane Swan says he was nearly out on his arse and turned it around, so hope all of our guys come on quick. They do look a good crop though.
