I love my Foxtel. I have had it for many years now and find it essential, not only for the footy and associated panel shows.
Many fine programs come out of the UK, USA and believe it or not, Canada, that never find their way to FTA. Add the quality documentaries that have limited ratings-attracting abilities, and re-runs of some of the classic old movies, and the service is extremely attractive.
A good alternative to the dross served up to us by the FTA channels.

$60 a month ($720 PA) for a few games a year is a massive rip-off for me… there is no way I am paying it
Each to their own, but personally, even if I had the time to watch foxtel (or FTA TV), I'd rather spend it staring at the ceiling.

+1. (Austar in my case). Only watch FTA for sport, excepting the ABC. I find I'm rapidly turning into my grandfather in my viewing choices ...GrumpyOne wrote:I love my Foxtel. I have had it for many years now and find it essential, not only for the footy and associated panel shows.

Take this weekend. Add Sydney Darby on Good Friday and West Coastvs Melbourne on Saturday night.
7 has Games 1, 2, 5, 6
Foxtel has all, but exclusively 3,4,7,8,9
Game 1- Collingwood vs Essendon
Game 2- Sydney vs GWS (Friday night must be 1 or 2)
Game 3- Hawthorn vs Geelong
Game 4- Freo vs Bulldogs
Game 5- Brisbane vs St. Kilda
Game 6- Carlton vs Adelaide
Game 7- West Coast vs Melbourne
Game 8- Richmond vs Norf
Game 9- Port vs Gold Coast
The big difference I see (in that round particularly) is that FTA miss out on the 3rd best game of the round.
FTA people don't get any less. They get lower quality, which is, as it should be.

good post......if it comes down to a choice between watching the same game on fta and fox....fox will win every time in this house.....fta is crap...ads...drongo commentators, piss poor presentation...you name it.....but mainly the f****** ads....The_Merchant wrote:I get so sick of the freeView ads etc. and the woe is me attitude of FTA tv stations about anti-siphoning laws. For years FTA stations have treated the viewers with contempt, telling us when and where we could watch our sport. Growing up in country Vic, we got a one-hour highlights package of footy, no live coverage at all. How times have changed, now we are complaining about only four live FTA games each week. Foxtel is forcing FTA to up the anti in what they offer viewers, not before time.

I just realised I have scarcely watched any FTA for ages - so I lloked up what I can watch right now ....New Inventors, Medical Emergency, Biggest Loser Inspector Rex and Million Dollar drop.
OK I am sticking with Foxtel even though it costs me a f****** fortune at least I can watch a movie I have seen before .... lol
Oh actually AFL 360 is on,
but we sure take crap - just look at the petrol prices and then the RBA is going to put up mortgages again because of it .... FFS!
And if I put solar electricity on my roof they will not give me money for the power I make that I do not use ..... I could go On and on ...

This is a team game and there is no room for individuals who think they are above walking through the fire.

They will give you money for the power you don't use, but will charge you so much more for the power you do use, that you do lose.mbogo wrote:I just realised I have scarcely watched any FTA for ages - so I lloked up what I can watch right now ....New Inventors, Medical Emergency, Biggest Loser Inspector Rex and Million Dollar drop.

People can knock Foxtel and normally those people are the ones who either can't afford it, or can afford it but don't want to pay for it. Fair enough.
But what would footy coverage look like without Foxtel? Firstly the TV Rights would be worth far less than they are now and the competition and the clubs would be worse off.
But more importantly, if there were no pay TV then there is no doubt that not all games would be televised. The FTA channels would only be interested in showing the games between the "big" teams and only the games played at times that suited them (eg Friday & Saturday nights)
People who complain about the current situation either have no knowledge, or memory, of the good old days when a one hour replay of highlights from two games was all that was available.
Coverage of AFL has never been better.

Completely irrelevant to the point around bastardising FTA for the sole benefit of Foxtel, but all good nonetheless.

Bloody ripper! Fox Footy channel was awesome. All day footy if you wanted to watch it and footy shows pretty much every night. I miss Clinton Grybas, he was really good.GrumpyOne wrote:About to see the re-appearance of the Foxtel AFL Channel.
Back to doing the replay of each game about 5 times a week, I guess. Better chance of being able to see a replay of our boys.

Back to a dedicated footy channel is fantastic news.
To those who say that there is nothing on Foxtel. Most of the great series are now on Foxtel
Breaking Bad, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, Treme , etc etc so with iq you can plan your viewing and never ever watch rubbish
To those who whinge about the cost, yes I agree, but re work your budget, maybe cut out out a take away meal once a week and steam some veggies and you will have paid for it. Most of us have to make a sacrifice somewhere to be able to get something we want
For me I can't believe someone would pay $15 for a packet of smokes, each to their own

That would be great, if we had it. Just as not everyone has Foxtel, not everyone who has Foxtel has IQ, believe it or not.saintspremiers wrote:Umm IQ?AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:Bloody ripper! You now get IQ for no extra cost per month, it may cost you a one off payment of $100 for the upgrade. It is the best $100 i have spent, record the EPL at 4am watch it when you get up and fast forward the half time bullcrap. That would be great, if we had it. Just as not everyone has Foxtel, not everyone who has Foxtel has IQ, believe it or not.
I gave away the smokes 4 years ago, now my smoke money gets me Foxtel.

fine for me, i have fox
but you get 1.25 billion bucks, just over 1 billion was apparently paid in cash according to another article i just read, and they STILL cant get live footy around the country on fta
and then the above article says this:
"A full AFL Foxtel package will cost $60 a month"
what just for the afl sports channels???

im guessing thats the basic ($43) and the sports ($18)
sept 10 sports was 16
before that it was 14
now its 18
20 bucks says its 20 bucks by 2012
