Final Q of game vs Lions....
.... it was the second tier players that won it for us.
Just watching it again on the replay

These players stood up and won it for us....

Dempster

Good to see the second tier puling us over the line. If we want to get back in to contention then it's going to need every player to lift, not just the stars playing better or hoping a young 'un will magically appear

Highlighted that in the Ray thread Richter, if people want to know where our improvement will come from this year...Richter wrote:.... it was the second tier players that won it for us.

It will be these guys stepping up, nicely complimenting the other guys when they return to form.
Re: Final Q of game vs Lions....
Absolutely. These blokes are the link players, the continuity providers at the club. They, and others like them - Dawson, Fisher, Gwilt - need to provide the consistency to allow the elite to gel and the younger players a chance to step up.SainterK wrote: Highlighted that in the Ray thread Richter, if people want to know where our improvement will come from this year...

West Coast Game Revisited
The match reminded me of the West Coast game last year when the tide was against us and the next goal would have ended our season - we scrambled the next goal to keep us in the game.
On Thursday when we hit the front in the last qtr I thought we controlled the rest of the match and did not look like we were going to lose.

I was pretty disappointed with our rucks and midfield for most of the game, and although RL obviously put a rocket up a few players at three quarter time, I just want to see a bit more head over the ball..too much receiving for my liking. McQ and Jones were as effective as any of our others in the last quarter.

It seems like the last qtr is where the sub rule is really going to have a huge effect with players running out of puff. Interesting to note that fisher thinks the team is fitter than it has been in the last few years. Combine that with the tall forwards experiment and maybe RL is going to be one step ahead of the competition again.
