Dempster is a joke of a footballer, the fact he has a medal is no argument, hell Cameron Looney has 3. Armitage for example was apparently warmed up and suited ready to play in the 09' GF. That day was perfect for his in-and-under, hard-tackling game. The fact he didn't play behind players such as Dempster is a disgrace.

Think we might struggle for run in this game. Good to see Smith and Steven hold their spots, but I'm not certain about having the 3 ruck/forwards and disappointed that we've got the four stoppers (Jones, Baker, Dempster, McQualter) in the side again; there is only room for one, if any of those players.
Stanley may effectively be taking over Gamble's spot. It's not like his defensive pressure could be any worse so we won't lose out from having him forward, we might just be lacking some running players. Gilbert, Gram and Ray need to step up with none of Hayes, Peake or Raph playing (who all do drive the ball forward from the midfield and defence).
I understand the way of thinking begin not selecting Winmar or Cripps; both are a fair way off physically being able to hold their own, but I'm still disappointed that Jones and Dempster have held their spot despite deplorable form. I do look forward to seeing McEvoy, Armitage, Smith, Steven and Stanley all put in a position with a decent amount of responsibility, and not just being a kid who gets to fill in for a week while a senior player is out.

You still haven't given me any proof that Baker is finishedLittle Dozer wrote:Dempster is a joke of a footballer, the fact he has a medal is no argument, hell Cameron Looney has 3. Anyone who can get a kick at AFL level cannot be a joke of a footballer.Little Dozer wrote:Dempster is a joke of a footballer, the fact he has a medal is no argument, hell Cameron Looney has 3. Dempster is below par , so is Raph , Peake...(Raph may improve over time) RL has to make some tough and radical decisions to kick start this group back into action.

Problem is the way we got to three grand finals was in this tough, tackling, defensive footy and players such as Jones, Dempster, McQualter and to a lesser extent Baker are these types of footballers, This is what fustrates me is people on here that are so focused on playing kids and attack more when the reality is our current game plan is very defensive and requires big mature bodies, and no matter what we try we can not play attacking footy that will get us to the 2011 grand final, the truth is we could try to play attacking footy but we wouldn't win enough games.mad saint guy wrote:Think we might struggle for run in this game. Sainter for life.
It always seems that way when you are losing. As soon as they start hitting form there'll be the "of course we knew they'd come good..." lines coming out from the true believers mouths.Really think on paper most teams have gone past us now...
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Raph may improve over time? How much more, he's had a fair old go, clearly not good enough. He's a much better player than Dempster though, which is saying something.

Shhhh lucky no one told Steve johnson and Didak...
PS defenders also have roles... Lucky no one else has caught on. Might be why we defend so well.

We don't need our own supporters peddling this garbage...
WE QUALIFIED FOR TWO GRAND FINALS!!!!
It is misleading, often deliberately so, to point out St Kilda participated in three Grand Finals, because it implies St Kilda could have won three premierships.
In essence, the eight quarters were one deciding contest. Collingwood only won one premiership cup.
Commit to memory, and leave the "failed in three grand finals" rubbish to the great unwashed.

If you wanted a statement from the players about how they are going to respond who would get picked first?
Steven Baker would be top 5
Who never takes a backward step on the field?
Steven baker
If it came down to an aggressive physical match who would you want in the middle of it?
Steven Baker
I think his selection in itself is a statement.
Steven, Smith, Stanley and co need rolemodels - here's your man.
