Modern day soft-c*ck football has spoilt a lot of fun in the game in many regards. God, how I yearn for some gloves off action...
Yes it was much better hitting blokes behind play. Wasnt it great watching Matthews smash Giles and Smith from melbourne and Bruns from Geelong.
Perhaps not to the extent of Matthews. I like a fair fight, not cheapshots.
What about Plugger, plugger66? He liked a little behind of play action. Will never forget his wrestling bouts. The one with Mick Martin was titanic. If you didn't enjoy that, you are a bore.

So you obviously had no issue with what Hooker did then?

plugger was always up front...made it plain and simple.....he just told opposition players where he stood and how they should play the game....basically he told them that if they gabbed him behind the play trying to impede him or scragged him...he would kill them......and he meant it too....
.everybody still loves lenny....and we always will

What happened to the other ROO thread (the one about not being chaired off). Has the whole thread been deleted and if so why?
I've not been on here all day so have missed what happened, but I posted in the thread and now the whole thread is missing.

I heard Tim Watson tell a funny story about when he was playing against the saints at Moorabin.
Reckons his role at the start of the game was to stand in the hole blocking plugger's run. Just before the start of the game he heard a voice behind him growl, 'I wouldn't stand there if I was you.' He turned around and reckoned the meanest looking prick he'd ever seen was snarling at him - plugger. He moved 5 metres to the right and said to plugger, 'what about here?' PLugger just waved his hand as if to indicate to keep moving. Watson moved another 10m to the right, looked around, and plugger gave him the thumbs up.

Much as I hate Essendon, I actually like Tim Watson and hearing him speak to Jobe on SEN it sounds like they have a pretty good relationship. It was actually a funny interview with not just the same old boring questions and answers.
maybe the above story's true...I don't know. Probably the game i remeber at Morrabbin was in '91. Sheedy got Terry Daniher to stand in the 'hole'...he was probably the only one who could. it must have worked 'cause we lost.

Like I said, I like Jobe watson.
Don't really like Hird.
Heard a rumour that Hooker was sledging Rooey about the 'schoolgirl' stuff...wouldn't be surprised if that instruction came from 'Fishface/Sandwiches' Thompson and Hird!

This.
You decide where you draw the line, and you bear the consequences whatever they may be.

Geez imagine if we all did that when we played sport? Imagine at the end of a tennis game a player refused to shake hands with the opposition.
I don't reckon that's what Roo did mind you, as nobody offered their hand to him as far as I can tell, but if Hooker did offer his hand, and roo refused it, then that's poor form and you can rationalise it all you like. There is no excuse.
It's part of being a grown up and part of playing sport- you look the bloke in the eye, shake his hand and move on, regardless of what's happened. Who cares if he was sledged. Roo did nothing wrong over summer - no-one knows that more than him surely. I would hate to think that he allowed his emotions to spill over re being bitterly disappointed in his team's performance to affect his personality like that.
Maybe RL should have refused to attend the presser b/c he thinks the journalists are wankers and he doesn't respect them?

Exactly. When we played social basketaball we played it as hard as we possibly could because we were 45 year olds playing against 20 year olds and the only way we could win was bluff them but at the end of each game we would always shake hands and if someone from opposition didnt because we played it tough we would explain the importance of what happens on the court stays there and you respect each other at the end of the game.

Yes, but at you age your hands are always shaking, and your opponents were quivering in fear, so it had nothing to do with respect.

Maybe Hooker asked Roo if he'd washed his hand since Miami and the skipper got offendedÂ
