Well that will happen in in alliance, and if they break it they will still be playing on small gorunds because thye will not have the chance to be running around on eithiad, subi, aami etc they will be playing on the VFL grounds around Victoria. The only way that would happen is if they bring back the proper AFL reserves which they need to.wraiyth wrote:Ross and Greg Hutchinson say they are unhappy with the state of the ground and unhappy with the fact that they are playing on a small ground, and want more space for players to run to as they train/condition players to play on larger grounds.
Agree 100%, but I was too young to remember AFL's Reserves playing, but who are the numbers that make up the 21/22 for the reserves?backit wrote:Well that will happen in in alliance, and if they break it they will still be playing on small gorunds because thye will not have the chance to be running around on eithiad, subi, aami etc they will be playing on the VFL grounds around Victoria. one good kick mark or goal apparently gets you a game with the Saints next week. Noone has really demanded a promotion although a few players have shown a bit.....but this ''Cripps is a class above'' type stuff is just nonsense...
God Phil Cleary waffling about the old days is boring lol

Steven would be a certainty to play next week given he doesn't get injured.
Johnson would be a fair chance, definetly looks good enough
Lynch has played pretty well, but has been playing in the backline, will make it harder for him to get picked
Smith looks alright, a fair chance to get picked
Cripps has had a couple of great dashes, and might get his chance based on his ability to run with the footy.
I would say they are our main chances

The VFL games are not much of a gauge of how players will go in the seniors. In today's Sandy game so far, I would think Steven and McQualter would be in the mix for senior selection, especially now Hayes is out for the year. Reasonably impressed with Will Johnson, Lynch across half back and Siposs up forward, but it falls away after that..Cripps and Winmar will need a bit of time but look pretty good, Stanley appears a long way off senior selection as does Heyne.

Cripps find the ball...but unfortunately has the "St Kilda" disease on disposing of it.
So far:
Steven looks good and should play next week in the seniors.
Johnson looks good as HF
Lynch has been good down back, and like last year seems more suited to that end.
Walsh has been steady.
Smith has been good.
Heyne. What he does is good, Just needs to do it more.
Sippos. have been impressed. Looks classy and knows how to slot a goal.
Mini. Butchers the ball. Please please do not elevate him next week.
Winmar. Looks good, but is raw and not ready.
Stanley has been ok, but sloppy.

In the old VFL days (pre AFL) teams had under 19's, reserves and Seniors. The senior lists were around 50 -52 on each club. Now the clubs going alone Pies and Cats are using top-up players from around Victoria when they need extra players, not ideal but does expose players to the next level and gives the club a chance to keep an eye out on players. With Rookies most clubs have a list of 48 now so there is only a need for a couple of yop ups, geelong has Troy Selwood working at their club and also playing for their VFL side. To me it is a good opportunity to keep players in the system to assist in development of young players ie Brad Miller this year at the Tigers.wraiyth wrote:Agree 100%, but I was too young to remember AFL's Reserves playing, but who are the numbers that make up the 21/22 for the reserves?backit wrote:Well that will happen in in alliance, and if they break it they will still be playing on small gorunds because thye will not have the chance to be running around on eithiad, subi, aami etc they will be playing on the VFL grounds around Victoria. Cool, thanks for the explanation. I knew the lists used to be a little larger but I didn't realize they had U19s as well.backit wrote:In the old VFL days (pre AFL) teams had under 19's, reserves and Seniors.
