i don't think things have really worked for him at st.kilda perse.

it's remarkable how he's been able to maintain his spot in the side. i guess that has worked for him.

Gram and Peake will get dropped because their butchering of the ball and their lack of accountabliity will finally catch up with them!!!
Maybe so, but Jones or (more likely) Geary could have a shot at Dempster's role in that case. Gram and Peake, I'm not sure we can afford to drop them...who do you replace them with? Eddy?? Mini???

I can see a noob getting a shot, but only if they can be covered. The only thing we still have in our favour against Essendon is experience, I can't see RL throwing that advantage.
yes....cause that experience has held us in good stead last 5 times...

Dempster was woeful after an otherwise solid start to the year, Blake is struggling to be something he isn't and should be put back in defense permanently. Clint Jones is the worst player on the list by quite a distance, Ryan Gamble looks too physically and mentally weak to play Afl footy and Bakes does some great individual acts but he generally can't keep up. Peake isn't good enough at disposing of the ball to be an Afl player.

On the other hand, Armo was fantastic, McEvoy played his best game to date and Archer showed some positive signs. In a way I'm glad that these first two games have been insipid performances because it's all out there now; the bottom six is simply not up to it and must be replaced by kids. Time to see what Steven, Cripps, Lynch and Smith can do. Over the next few weeks Ledger and maybe Johnson, Walsh and Cahill could get a run as well.

I focussed a fair bit on Gamble last night. If anyone can tell me why he's of any value, I'd love to hear the reasons. He's lightly framed, physically weak, doen't attack the contest, and runs to some very peculiar places for a lead-up forward. At 184cm, you can play that role if you're as tough as Aaron Hamill, or as clever as Brad Johnson, but Gamble is a poor man's Brad Fisher.

Sometimes it's just pretty obvious. He's not a kid, he's 23 and he's not going to get bigger, stronger, or have huge improvement in him like a kid will.

Spot on with this post Barks.

All the players you mentioned are the ones who should make way.

It should be obvious to everyone that these guys cannot take the stkilda footy club to where it needs to be !

Why is Gram in this subject?

And I must have been at a different game because I thought we were absolutely slaughtered in the ruck hence the problems we had.

Our mids were under pressure immediately with losing rucks hence Richmonds ability to tackle, win the pill and spread with their attacking waves.

McEvoy is a work in progress, which you would expect at this stage of his career.

With the rule changes, Koschitzke will prove adequate against other sides who do not have 2 genuine ruckman in their 21.

But we are really missing Gardiner.

Next week up against Hille and Dempsey - with the big body of Watson sitting under them and disposing to a quick and willing batch of running mid-fielders will take some stopping - again!

Then there was the problem we had with Richmond's ruckman resting forward - and next week we have Hille and Dempsey to stretch us in defence.

Disagree about Gamble as he wasn't recruited as a key forward, more a flanker, and I would perservere with him- our problem so far is we have played two games effectively without a CHF or FF contributing. The game has got past Baker as a backman, and Dempster has had his day I think. Jones is OK and will be important this year if Lenny is lost. The worrying thing is team mindset, we have lost to an undermanned Geelong and nearly to a second rate team in Richmond minus their star player...where's our hunger and instensity?

and a few others would want to start stepping up

Farren Ray for starters

time to play the kids, without Lenny we are soooooooo gone

the season is as good as over

if you can't beat Richmond, face facts

what hope do we have?

PLAY

Steven, Cripps, Ledger, Crocker, Stanley, Winmar, Walsh, Smith, Lynch, Heyne etc...etc...

Geary deserves an opportunity

DROP

Dempster, Blake, Gram, Baker, Gamble, Peake immediately

Dempster and McQualter should play the year out with Sandringham then be delisted

Blake and Baker should retire

stop wasting time

no more pussyfooting

we are so gone

I would make six changes this week

bring all the kids on as fast as possible to see who is up to it and who is just another clogger

because we already have more than our fair share

because he is SOFT, does not know what a hard ball means

squibs it and has been squibbing it for years

his foot skills are deplorable, turns it over, shanks it, misses targets

his decision making is awful at the best of times

if he spent more time working on his foot skills and less time on his tatts that might be a good starting point

what's with the tatts, does he really think it will make him look tougher and hide the fact he does not know what a hard ball means?

just looks more and more of a c**k head like Swan and Beams

no amount of tattooing can get away from the fact he is an absolute soft c**k, a show pony, a downhill skier if ever there was one, a total liability and we would be better off trading him for a young kid who goes hard and can kick properly at the end of the year, if we were FAIR DINKUM

Gram is a butterboy, marshmallow, powder puff pooncing show pony

that is why!

Dempster, doesn't get the ball and when he does his disposal is bad, sadly never recovered from his knee injury at the end of 08.
Blake, still a tireless servant of club, wouldn't drop him yet.
Peake, plays a couple of good games, but just isn't consistent and disposal and mindset is still with Freo.
Baker, is a war horse but sadly his time may be coming to an end.
Gamble, let's wait until Kosi and Schneider are back, then we might get a truer impression on his value.
Gram, didn't go hard enough when he had chance to break through on the forward 50 in last quarter, question mark.
Jones, works hard, but disposal is embarrassing.
Two other culprits last night, Gilbert, disposal is still bad and has not improved and Joey 36% effiecency on his disposal and disappeared for good parts of the game.
Also have to question why Dal Santo can hit targets, but can't kick the ball between two big sticks.
Unfortunately our recruits like Lynch, Heyne etc have not exactly set the world on fire in the VFL or in the NAB Cup.
The only good thing about last night was that Armo played his best senior game for the club by a long way.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Agree 100% with the OP....

And agree with Dempster first in line to be cut..

He is a shocking footballer, and Ross is not serious if he isnt dropped...

Dempsters game last night was one of the worst individual performances of recent times...

With respect there have been many posters throughout the NAB calling for change.

Last two years was different and we were vying for the flag...was all about "now". We could have won both years...so a bit hard to be too negative one would think?

This year is different..and many have been saying time for new blood.

Armo could well have had more games...but let's not ignore that in his time at the club to date that he has had a series of injuries...and this more than anything probably cost him more games.

Steven came in well last year...but then developed OP. May have cost him playing finals.

Agree.

Also with Jones the way football is structured these days there is less need for taggers as it works against your zoning.

Lenny opens a slot

Baker: Smith
Blake/Dempster: Lynch (who looks good down back), Simpkin

Peake: Steven, Heyne,

Archer: While good to see the kid get a game..I suspect Stanley would be better. Johnson looks different player to last year. Walsh may also be wortha run up forward.

Cripps should get some games this year...but is raw.

Get the bucket, as I think both will get a game. If Stanley ever gets a game on today's VFL performance- I personally will spew and I think Archer should get a few more games.
Apparently Dempster played the worse game of football ever witnessed and that's why we didn't win last night, can I suggest he had about five or six mates who didn't help the cause, and they wern't our bottom six

May I have one of those buckets please Mr Spert?

McQualter has the senior experience that will probably see him called up, but really what has he done today to demand selection :?
