First game for the kid tonight - what's an acceptable game for him? What's a good game?
I reckon acceptable is:
8 touches, 4 marks, 12 hitouts, 1 scoring shot
Good would be:
10-12 touches, 5-6 marks, 15 hitouts, 1 goal
(That's about equal to McEvoy's game last week.)
Whaddya reckon? Is it fair to expect the game given above?

Based on Archer playing a full game as a forward ( he probably wont though).
If he can chase down and tackle a couple of times plus create a path for smaller players and provide them some spillages/crumbing opportunities by contesting 4 marks - and if he can kick 1 goal himself, and be an effective tall decoy to Riewoldt and release him - that would be a great result.

Problem with Rix was that he played 10 games before he got his first kick!!!doppler effect wrote:Should get a goal with his first kick. Just like Michael Rix! Remember him? What a champ

It's his first game. Too many unknows to try and generate a statline for him.
Compete willingly, get to as many contests as possible, win a few of them.
Make life miserable for his opponents, don't get caught out of position.
If he does these things, the numbers will look after themselves.

If he plays forward I don't see why 3-4 goals isn't doable, this is a team that only has McGuane (dud) and Astbury (future star, but still raw) as their only tall backs... hell on the team sheet they have Connors as CHB...
Having said that, I think he'll be the sub, come on in the last quarter, probably get two or three touches and one shot on goal.

A goal, a couple of strong marks, solid defensive pressure and to present a willing target in the forward line is what he needs to do to earn his spot. I think he's definitely capable of doing that. I don't see any point in having him as the sub. Run is what is needs to be injected in the late parts of the game, not an essential part of the team structure.

He shouldn't be the sub. I think as the season goes on we will see that big men aren't sub material.
Last week the Swans used Seaby as their sub and he had no influence at all. This week he has been dropped all together.
I think our use of a line breaking player is a better tactic. I'm tipping Gram to be our sub, and Peake to play a full game.
Anyway, back to Archer, I think a couple of marks down forward, a few hitouts, and at least one goal, should see him get another game, especially if Kosi doesn't play at all this weekend, and Stanley struggles again.

Five goals. f*** it. Why not?
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
