The bottom six who are destroying us - time to wake up
Baker - a liability because he can not dispose of the ball when he gets it which is a rare event. No left foot and no depth in his disposal cost us again tonight. No pace.
Milne - one trick pony who was worked out by opposition teams years ago. Disposal skills rival Baker's - again when he gets it which is rare. No pace.
Blake - a journeyman who brings nothing to the side. Needs to be the spare man in defence to get a possession and then his disposal is similar to Baker's and Milne's. Played as a forward but can not kick straight. No pace.
Dempster - runs around never bothering to actually get his hands on the ball. Is listed at 191 cm which is therefore a waste. No pace.
Gamble - He joins the list. No wonder Geelong got rid of him. Is said to play "tall". Goodness, gracious me! No pace.
McQualter - Another with woeful disposal skills and like the rest listed here hardly touches the ball. No pace.
So there are the 6 people.
And they were all on display tonight show casing their absolute deficiencies.
Put the similar player from Geelong against these 6 and do the comparative. 10 v 8 who at least has lethal disposal skills, 44 v 27 and that is the comparative etc. etc. etc. etc.
Then you will have the reasons these 6 have to go.
Far, far too much on the shoulders of far, far too few - with Lenny Hayes leading the way by a country mile.
Why take Hayes and McEvoy off at the late stage of the game they were consigned to the bench?
Both should have remained on the ground.
I would be tempted to replace the whole 6 named above now - because their replacements have to be able to bring more to the table than this 6 do.
Simply, if they can run with some pace and kick over a jam jar they are in front of these 6 liabilities.

It's our kickng abilities as a team.
Ray, Blake, Jones, Gram, Gilbert, McQualter, Peake... All sub-standard kicks. Actually make that extremely poor disposal.
Player like Goddard, Dal Santo, Gwilt, Schneider mask this issue in our team.
Fact is our team is absolutely littered with pathetic kicking skills.
Noted players play good games, like Blake tonite excusing one kick... But going against the current with too many in the one side.

Agree with the concept of the bottom 6 letting us down but noyour selected grup.To the top wrote:Baker - a liability because he can not dispose of the ball when he gets it which is a rare event. No left foot and no depth in his disposal cost us again tonight. No pace.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Ridiculous to say that Milne has been worked out. Had a great game against Geeong only 3 games ago.
However, tonight he was poor. Missed one in the 2nd that he would have usually slotted. Hope that tonight was an aberration, but I fear this is the beginning of the end for him.

Yes I know we lost. You certainly do as well, you keep telling us. If last year counts for nothing or any other year for that matter, then Milne IS under the pump b/c he played ordinary tonight. The point is, last year and the 10 he player prior to that do count.BigMart wrote:Last year is gone...and btw we lost...
Milne is still a dangerous fwd
Blake is good
Others discussed should be under the pump
Just like punter's average of 50 in test cricket counts - otherwise he would have been dropped long ago.

Compare Milne with the like player from each of the other clubs.
Starting with tonight and 27 for Geelong. 27 is their small forward and he was constantly dangerous including going into the centre square.
Then try Davey, Rioli, Krakouer and the list goes on and on.
Milne is past it by a generation - and "2 goals a game" never, ever cut it.
A major liability.
As long as Milne is in the side (along with the other 5 named) we will be served up with the garbage we were served up with tonight.

I think it was better when you quit the forum. By the way how did Stokes go tonight. Didnt seem to do a great deal. And if you think 2 goals a game from a small forward doesnt cut then you know less about footy than I thought. The question is though "is that possible".To the top wrote:Compare Milne with the like player from each of the other clubs.

Blake is important for our structure and (apart from that brainfade tonight) is normally very reliable within his limitations.
Milne is important because he demands a good opponent and will win us a few games singlehandedly.
Baker still adds value in that he is a great shut down man. He is never going to stream down the middle and kick a goal from 50 but that is not his role.
But agree on the others.
Gamble - we lost
McQualter - TERRIBLE - squibbed some contests, fumbled, can't kick, looks slow
Peake - ditto
Dempster - maybe give him another chance

2 goals a game never cut it?
Only 71 players have kicked more goals than Milne in 114 seasons of VFL/AFL football. He plays bad games, but every small forwards does.

Krakouer hasnt played an AFL game in, what, 2 years? To the top wrote:Compare Milne with the like player from each of the other clubs.

Alwyn Davey has decent burst speed, nothing more, nothing less. Unless you mean Aaron Davey, who is a half back.
Rioli looks like he will be a fantastic player. SO FAR, has not displayed any consistency.
Milne had a poor game, in a one point loss. Honestly.
Came off with a calf injury and his common ailment of playing incognitoSainterK wrote:Something weird with Mini tonight.
He was out on the ground early, didn't move, kick or anything.
Official warm up, he skipped the stretching and moved off.
Not sure he started right, what's that about?

If something wasn't right with him - we had emergenices lined up ready to go.dcstkfc wrote:Came off with a calf injury and his common ailment of playing incognitoSainterK wrote:Something weird with Mini tonight.

If he wasn't injured - he'd be on thin ice most definitely. Agree with the incognito ailment!! What is the point of a 'defensive" forward? If that's your role - you should be setting up goal after goal if you're not kicking them at very least!
If he's tweaked a calf - he'll be missing for a couple of weeks most likely (they're a bugger to get right) - so a good opportunity for a younger player to grab his spot you would hope.

Completely disagree on Milne and Blake, I also think Dempster warrants selection; there is room for one specialist shut-down defender and I think he gets the spot. Can play on small or medium forwards and shuts them out of the game, he doesn't get a lot of the footy but when he does he uses it well.
But yes Baker should have given it up last year. Too weak in the air to be a defender and not skilled/fit enough to be a tagger. Not a terrible player, but doesn't add enough to get a spot in the side.
McQualter is useless, just doesn't hurt the opposition at all.
Gamble isn't looking really promising but I'd give him a few weeks to see if he can have an impact in a functional forward line where there is more than one target and he can be the crafty third/fourth option.
I don't see how Peake and Jones escape your criticism. Peake runs hard and gets in good spots then wastes the ball with unreliable skills and poor decision making. He's almost a very good player but just doesn't have what it required to play in a good AFL side. Jones gets the ball, panicks, hesitates and either attempts to hack the ball forward or handballs to a teammate already under pressure. He just always puts the team in a bad position after he's disposed of the ball.
The core (certainties when fit) - Riewoldt, Hayes, Dal Santo, Montagna, Goddard, Dawson, Gwilt, Fisher, Clarke, Blake, Gilbert
The second-tier (likely to play when fit) - Koschitzke, Ray, Milne, Gram, Armitage, Gardiner, McEvoy, Dempster
The cloggers - McQualter, Peake, Baker, Geary, Gamble (possibly move up), Polo (possibly move up)
The future - Ledger, Steven, Smith, Lynch, Stanley, Walsh, Archer, Cripps, Winmar
