Kick it to roo
We need to get this s*** out of our system right now. He's just going to get injured going three against one and it always seems to result in easy takeaway for the opposition. Midfielders kick some
Fkn goals. You're allowed.

I counted half a dozen times in the 2nd quarter where we went to Roo and he had two, three and even four opponents on him at times. Hardly had a chance to go one on one.
Why did we still go to him? I have no bloody idea. I mean, we did a lot right except delivering up forward.
Hopefully it changes next week or else we'll be 0-2

Time after time they kicked it to Roo when
- firstly he was outnumbered two to one
- and secondly Geelong always seem to keep a defender in the corridor which forces forwards to lead deep into the flanks
It is a brain dead strategy.
- firstly if he is outnumbered two to one then he is going to get hammered
- secondly it means we must have a loose man somewhere who needs to present
- thirdly honouring a lead by Roo do the boundary line is a stupid option as even if he wins possession he is not going to kick goals from there.
That one-dimensionality killed us tonight.

Was easily the most frustrating aspect of the loss tonight.
But nothing seemed to be done about it. Or did I miss the moves?
When did Gilbo play forward apart from when he was dragged up there by his opponent? And why did our small/medium forwards allow themselves to be dragged so far from goal? No confidece in backing themselves or game plan?

At least we have potentially got some in's in the coming weeks IM, Schneider and Kosi will help the structure enormously.Iceman234 wrote:Was easily the most frustrating aspect of the loss tonight.

True, but it was improved on last year I thought.savatage wrote:No but they can when they're running close to the 50 metre arc instead of stuttering & looking for someone to kick it to!BigMart wrote:Mids cant kick goals from chb.....well bj maybe....
Midfielders had 10 shots on goal tonight.
Some of them were crap, fell short etc, but it will come.
Least they realise they need to.
It needs a lot more improvement if thats the case - it's like they s*** themselves anywhere outside the 50. Always looking for targets. Back your kicking ability!SainterK wrote:True, but it was improved on last year I thought.savatage wrote:No but they can when they're running close to the 50 metre arc instead of stuttering & looking for someone to kick it to!BigMart wrote:Mids cant kick goals from chb.....well bj maybe....

It will come, we are just a side that has to learn other avenues to goal, a side that's gotten used to passing it off.
Yes some attempts were rubbish, but I like that "oh maybe I can take a shot" actually did enter the thought process tonight.
Inside 50's and 'attempts' at goals pleased me, maybe I'm easily pleased, but I believe it's steps in the right direction anyway.

Fkn goals. You're allowed.
That was just laughable and retarded tonight. It was like we were back in 1988 and only option was "kick it to Plugger".
Someone also needs to tell them that they are allowed to be flexible and that they are allowed to take the best option each time they get the pill.
Sticking to a game plan is one thing, but there's such a thing as adapting to the situation you're in.

Off topic but a real highlight was going to Warner Brothers Studios in Hollywood & reading a hand written letter from Bruce Lee to the head of Warner Brothers regarding Enter the Dragon! Very cool!AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:+100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000savatage wrote:We need to get this s*** out of our system right now. But back to football - absolutely reminiscent of the old Plugger days & needs to be eradicated immediately.

Savatage has raised a very important issue. It's just Captain Obvious stuff for the oppsoition teams. We need another tall forward, or otherwise he'll get played like a bass fiddle.
The constant pressure Roo gets put under is only going to jeopardise his body. The wear and tear can only last so long.
We can't get Kosi back any further. Even if his form is as poor as it was for a majority of last year, he will at least play a pivotal role in being a decoy.
McEvoy and Kosi alternatining the ruck and full forward positions may just be the right tonic we're after.

I believe that team was picked, because of the forecast of rain. We were way to short to short down forward. We needed a Archer or Stanley to give us another tall option. I love Joe Blake as a player but he is not a forward. Scarlett was playing as a lose man down back, he should of been held accountable by Gilbert.
It was not all doom and gloom, we just need a bit of a tweak.

Apparently, they're not. I still haven't seen an explanation as to why Monty's fantastic goal in the last was taken off him! Leigh Matthews, in all his 'wisdom', reckoned it was an evener for the advantage call mid-2009...ignoring the fact that there was nothing wrong with that call. Certainly cost us the game.savatage wrote:Midfielders kick some Fkn goals. You're allowed.

Agree entriely. But if it's so obvious for you and me why couldn't the selectors see it? Another tall up forward (either select Walsh or Stanley or more Gilbert up there at some stage) could have made a huge difference.ando051 wrote:I believe that team was picked, because of the forecast of rain. Re: Kick it to roo
crap. hayes kicked his goal about thirty seconds later from the same forward thrust. in practice, it made no difference whether or not montagna's was paid, though i agree that the decision was somewhat confusing.degruch wrote:Apparently, they're not.
