If you do not "'gift games'", then please explain the selection Ryan Gamble.

He has no attack on the ball at all, and this for a lead-up forward is just not on.

As for McQualter, as he has no form to speak of to justify his selection. Yes, he was great in 2009, but hey, guess what, it's 2011.

And if you are seriously concerned about making us more unpredictable up forward, then haveing Riewoldt as your only tall forward (Blake is not a forward and it's ridiculous to ask him to play that role). You actually have a couple of young guys on your list that actually are tall forward, but your stubbornness won't allow you to bend just a little.

If we go into the next few games with the same forward set up, then 6 or 7 goals a game will become the norm.

Look, awful night, terrible game...every facet...us, them, umpires, all pathetic tonight.

I was surprised, I thought Gamble went hard at at, he seemed to squib 3 times and I was disappointed to see it...

Hopefully we can walk away from tonight and have a real look at what happened out there, that game has enough crap in it for us to learn a whole lot from it.

Poor Roo tonight...felt for him.

stuff roo. take a mark inside 50 if ur a highly paid big gun. richos million marks on the wing for richmond last decade really helped them win games.

oh thats right, he woulda been norm smith if we won the 09 grannie

Give Gamble a go. It was his first game and sure he's got a lot to work on but he's off the mark, kicked a goal, four tackles, and more inside 50s than anyone (7). It weren't great conditions for forwards last night. Would like his instruction to be stay deep.

WHen I heard that we drafted Gamble I almost broke down and cryed. So it is safe to say I'm not a fan. But he did ok last night. If we think he can play as a full forward on a teams best full back we are kidding ourselfs. Needs to play along side Roo/Kosi.

Add me to the list who think the game was lost at the selection table.

Dear Ross,

Why was Gilbert played down back after being invested in as a forward?

What was Blake doing up forward?

Where was your game plan with 3-4 talls in the forward line?

Whose call was this forward structure, yours or Kingsley's?

You promised more attacking footy... we want to see more attacking footy.

Exactly. Gamble's not a KPP, never has been, never will be. Needs at least Roo and Kosi down there (or in Kosi's absence Archer or Stanley). Happy for him to get a game but it's got to be as the third or fourth option not the second.
Most disappointing thing for me was that after all the preseason talk about taking the game on and putting more scoreboard pressure we still had Roo one out with Scarlett, Taylor and Lonergan.

If i was a young bloke i`d hate to be drafted by saints as i know i`d be lucky to get a go and would be spending years sitting in the twos while Ross recruits recycled hasbeens.

Before you bag Gamble too much remember he's equal leading goal kicker for the club for the season.

I'm sure Hawks are happy, as long as they play that sort of game, results aren't so important

Dear Ross,

Not overally happy about Friday night. The loss (naturally) or the lack of goals.

But I know you're a very intelligent man and a terrific coach and I have full confidence that you will get it sorted, as you have in previous seasons.

Cheers

Dr S

What forward line ???

Post: # 1052447Post WinnersOnly »

We cant kick goals kicking from behind the centre line…

The mega flood is to mask our inability to win one on one contests in the back line and killing our goal kicking abilities.

According to Ross and his mates it is the only way we can compete apparently !

RL dare to win and take some risks!!!

Ross Lyon is a tactical genious. No one can deny him that!
However, he needs to show a little more faith in younger players, and he will find that they will reward him. This is my only criticism of Ross... a very conservative approach to selection.
The most disappointing thing regarding Friday night, was that after two unsuccessful grand final appearances, the starting line up for Round 1, 2011 was almost identical to our last game of 2010. The only consolation is that it was only Round 1. As I have done for the last 43 years, I live in hope that things will get better.
